    Default Lucky Or Good?

Its like the famous quote - "Would you rather be lucky, or good?"

My issue currently is, i only seem to be winning in MTTs when i am getting lucky.

Ive looked at some recent hand histories as I cant sleep, and figured id post this before trying again.

Mainly ive been starting off pretty solid, losing some small pots, losing big ones but only if im getting it all in in impossible situations, AK vs KK, KK vs AA e.t.c, and obviously winning a large amount of pots early on too.

Then at some point during the first couple of hours, ill get it in ahead and lose to something a bit odd, like AK vs AJ, and ill drop right back down again.

this is where the luck is coming in. Maybe its "karma" for losing as a favourite so often, maybe its variance, who knows. But as a serious point of view, its having to happen for me to be able to cash or go deep in any MTT.

It sit and gos its al basic. Im winning more than i lose on average over the last 4 months. Ive got a 14% ROI over the last 6 months which makes me happy, but a -19% ROI in MTTs. I can honestly say that my tourney game and reads are ok, i mean everything needs improving but im not significantly worse than i was 3 years ago when i was going deep in alot of games.

What ive decided is its the lower buyin levels. I cant get out of my head the things i used to be able to do against people in $200 buyins, or $100 buyins. I could get away with some mad moves there, calling down flop and turn bets with utter garbage to only push the river or something representing a slow played set or something. And itd work, and work well. In the past i had a whole range of options. And i know the people who were here back then can vouch for that, NDN in particular as we played alot of MTTs together in the past, and some now.

IMO my MTT game has gotten sligtly worse. My reads are spot on still, but i not using them as much when im playing, only when watching or ghosting others. Yesterday for example i watched someone (Lori i believe) in a small buyin on Stars i sent her to get used to poker. She folded preflop, and there was a big pot going on. From their bets and the flop i said the raiser had 77, the caller had AQ, and the all in had Kings. All 3 hands were completely spot on. on a Q 7 4 flop too. I was impressed.

My issue is doing this whilst im playing. I like to have other things going on while i play, chatting on MSN, watcing online TV, a film or currently some MLB on mlb.tv. This detracts from my watching the hands im not in, and getting some subtle information on the other players.

If this is affecting it i dont know.

But ill figure it out. I know i can beat most people in MTTs, and i can do it, ive proven that, whats going on right now is either some weird variance, or ive completely lost touch with the game as it is today.

Good post. I think you need a break from mtt tourneys and read about mtg in a book. The reason for this is you are obviously thinking way to hard at the table and you can't play your game. Everyone needs a vacation, well so do poker plays. I am currently on vacation and I took it b/c I am playing too good in mtt tourneys. so just keep in Mind, running bad or good everyone needs a break or a week of.

    Default Lucky?

Work on your Karma, yes first.

    That will help.

Don't get involved in any hand vs. NDN.

Stop playing for 48 hours and get some sleep.

The lower priced game is full of lucky players.

The best pros like Freedy Deebs say that skill will only take you so far.

You got to get luckyto win tourneys.

My wife says I am the luckiest person she has ever seen.

It's up to you now to figure out how to enhance your luck.

I am lucky just knowing you Eejit.

    Cheer up

    It's all good.

I think you have too much on your mind and you need to smile. Look within yourself and say "I love Me" for change and learn to do so. Not even poker can't make you happy if you don't love yourself. Unfortunately you and only you can make you whole and happy (aside from God, sorry but I believe it true), than poker and a partners etc. can compliment you. Which you don't need much complimenting in the first place because you are a supper person in the first place. Too bad you can't see it like I can.

Too much of anything is no good. Take a break and clean off your mind.

I do believe you have been very lucky in the past, with that 60 k or so win. But if you have been living on poker, and getting bored enough to not pay attention closely to how people are playing, then if it was me i would take a break, go get a new xbox360 game or something. Go fishing, have fun with your gf, wife, or both and just generally stay away from poker for a little while. It always seems to help dont ask me why, it just does.

Take some of your own advice and RelaxYourMind.

Klinkman multitasks during poker too, and is pretty observant, so I don't think that's necessarily your problem.

okay so u are trying to figure out y cant play as u use to? i think thats what im getting. well eejit poker and its players have evolved. i surely do believe u can beat most out there on mtt's. for u to have to occupy yourself while playing so u dont see what u could have is a distraction on its own. like u told me on the 50 k tourney dont worry about the hands u folded that would have won look forward to the hands u will win. u havnet lost touch i think your reads are great but there is something mental that is telling u to occupy yourself so u dont think about hands. maybe u shoulkd either try a break or play a mtt in complete and utter silence. no lights no tv no music no nothing. maybe that will spark your fire again. u havent lost it. u know u giveout tons of advice maybe you shoud heed that advice. im not sure if this does anything for u but try playing in silence. no distarctions at all. no beer no phone. i think actually concentrating on a game is the best thing for u. so many things run thry YOUR MIND that u get clouded. as for your read at stars with lori u are usually spot on. i have made reads like that in the past but u are more consistant. try a $200 mtt buyin and see what happens. we need paradise back too.
