Cash Cab, hosted by Ben Bailey and on the Discovery Channel, is a TV game show that occurs in the taxi van driven by Bailey.
How it works is the contestants are given trivia questions throughout the cab ride to earn money (in lieu of paying a cab fare) all the way to their destination. Along the way, the questions get harder, but as they do you can earn more money per question (they usually go $25, $50, $100, and if there's time $200 a piece).
The catch is, if you get three questions wrong (strikes), then Ben has to pull over and kick you out wherever you are, and you lose all your money. To help you out, you can either do one mobile "shout-out" where you can call a friend for the answer, or you can do a street shout-out where he'll pull over and you can try to ask bystanders if anyone knows the answer to the question.
Also, if you have at least $250 and you get stuck at a red light, that will trigger a "Red Light Challenge" where the host will ask you a question with multiple answers, and you must get all parts of the question right in order to win the money. If you do, it's worth an extra $250 to you. If you get it wrong you won't get a strike for it or anything, it just won't earn you extra money.
At the end of your ride, Ben offers you a choice. You can take the money you've earned and walk away, or you can risk everything and go "double or nothing" on a Video Bonus question. How that works is he'll show you a video clip and then ask you one question about that clip. If you get it right, he'll double your winnings, but if you get it wrong, you lose all your money and all you walk away with is a free cab ride (which is still not bad for New York!)
It's one of klinkman and my favorite game shows, and it's really fun to compete with each other on the answers, especially since we seem to share a brain much of the time.
