I'll be doing another one of my race analysis posts for the Hollywood Gold Cup on Saturday at Hollywood Park. Full Past Performances aren't up yet, so my analysis will have to wait until then. So far, it looks like Compari and Tres Borrachos will set the early pace, and the big question is if they will duel for the lead, of if one or both will back off. If they go dueling, it's likely to be a suicide mission for both, setting up the race for closers like Awesome Gem. If one or both back off, Rail Trip will be lying in wait for them both. It's shaping up to be an awesome race that hinges on that one point. We'll see on Saturday.

Wait, Rail Trip *isn't* being ridden by Calvin Borel? There's something wrong with that.

I'm going to necro the thread just to make sure no one is left hanging. NTRA didn't end up releasing free past performances for the race, leaving me unable to effectively handicap it and post for you all. Anyway, I did suspect that the pace would be fast enough to set up for Awesome Gem. Tres Borrachos broke in the air and came out slowly, and the race slowed to a crawl. Rail Trip didn't end up getting one and was forced to move 4-wide while Awesome Gem did, and the saved ground got him there in the end.
