who hear feels it should be legal. here is brief statement from a san francisco senator trying to put this into legislation.

The story SF Weekly broke on Friday is true: Assemblyman Tom Ammiano will announce legislation on Monday to legalize marijuana and earn perhaps $1 billion annually by taxing it.

Quintin Mecke, Ammiano's press secretary, confirmed to SF Weekly that the assemblyman's 10 a.m. Monday press conference regarding "new legislation related to the state's fiscal crisis" will broach the subject of reaping untold -- and much-needed -- wealth from the state's No. 1 cash crop.

Mecke said Ammiano's proposed bill "would remove all penalties in California law on cultivation, transportation, sale, purchase, possession, or use of marijuana, natural THC, or paraphernalia for persons over the age of 21."

The bill would additionally prohibit state and local law officials from enforcing federal marijuana laws. As for Step Two -- profit -- Ammiano's bill calls for "establishing a fee on the sale of marijuana at a rate of $50 per ounce." Mecke said that would bring in roughly $1 billion for the state, according to estimates made by marijuana advocacy organizations.

i think it should pass. weed is from the earth and has no added chemicals in it like the other drugs such as cocaine. meth, heroin and others. it would be great for local and state economies. he suggests that we tax it and have like we do it for liquor and beer. i think it a is a great idea. i wont get in trouble and the state will get extra cash for taxes by legalizing it. i think there are more people that are for it then against it. and for all that are against it why dont u try it once and tell me what u think. LOL

I think all drugs should be legal,taxed and regulated like alcohol. I think it would put most drug dealers out of business and cut down on a lot of violent crime. Not to mention all the cash we would get in taxes that were not getting now. That would also leave the police free to keep citizens safe instead of looking for reasons to do car stops all the time. I almost forgot to mention all the money we would be saving without keeping drug dealers in prison for years after being caught with small amounts of drugs.

lol. yeah people that i have talked to say alcahol is worse that pot. i believe it is. when do u ever hear of someone ever having a dui while being high on weed. i think the us gov. is kust stupid and way to conservative. they would reap many benefits of legalizing it. drug lords would be out of business and that will help reduce crime. not all of crime but theones where people get killed over a bad pot deal gone wrong or robbery. we will still have problems with meth coc and heroin but weed is a major money maker for drug dealers. i hope they pass it. obama already said the feds wont do anymore raids on our local medicinal marijuana clubs. i hope he keeps his word. its a start. ill take it.

i totally agree. we would have a better society. i dont know about all drugs but pot should be legal.

I've been reading all lot of articles on the Internet that have been around since the early 1990's saying the biggest suppliers are the CIA. They use military airplanes and bases to ship in cocaine. I definitely think marijuana should be decriminalized, at least. It's silly. Granted I don't smoke anything, let alone pot, but trust me, there are more harmful things out there, and I believe that if people don't see it as a taboo as much, it is less likely to be abused or potentially dangerous.

I haven't smoked in a very long time and most likely won't do it again. That being said, I loved it when I did it but just kind of moved on. I definitely think it should be legalized and taxed. Obviously there will have to be other laws about driving and things like that but that can easily be taken care of. What a great way to help boost the economy. And I agree. Most people that are against it have never tried it. If they did they would realize that it is not some demon drug at all.

not only would the legaliation of marijuana benefit the general state of mind of the nation, taxing it like it would inevitably be taxed if it was legalized, would generate a ridiculous renevue. Ditto the arguement for the legalization of online poker. Between the legalization of those two things there would undoubtedly be a surplus in taxes generated for the US, enough so that it could make a tangible difference. Even though marijuana is classified as a Hallucinogen, which I thought strange. I still think marijuana should be legal, yes. It is probably less harmful than caffeine or nicotine, I know that it is less addictive than either. For sure it is less harmful than alcohol, in more ways than one.

But as far as the legalization process, nope not for a while. It would be too difficult for the government to control and collect taxes. However if they limit it to pharmaceuticals and keep it in pill form they can keep it all under control. I totally believe that the whole thing has not been passed for the one and only fact "money" and that is it. I mean what else. The concern for the people and their welfare? I doubt it.

I mean with all of the scripts going on now days it is almost impossible for it to be tracked and controlled. This is the whole problem.

Yes I do really think that marijuana can medically help people. Definitely! Especially cancer patients, for both pain and nausea.

And their are differences between cigarettes (Nicotine) and Marijuana (THC) for one nicotine is classified as a stimulant which stimulates brain cells and elevates the heart rate. Speeds up metabolism. Marijuana is classified as a hallucinogen, which creates a feeling of euphoria. Nonetheless the addiction to nicotine is by far worse than addiction to marijuana. Therefore making it much more difficult to detox the nicotine than THC.

As a matter of a fact the only similarities the two share are that 1. you can inhale smoke from both, but marijuana can be used in other ways such as eaten, vapor, pill etc. unlike nicotine which can enter the body by patch and or by gum... and 2. a marijuana joint resembles a cigarette. That's it!

I am not encouraging the use of marijuana especially the use of illegal marijuana. I am just simply answering and responding to your post. And stating my personal opinion. :)

well in my teen days i did alot of good stuff but grew out of it. sucked up my lunch money when i was in school. got old real fast. i use to go to grateful dead concerts just for some acid. dead heads always had it. i remember one time i was in high school and we got this acid that was called 8 ball. i guess it was dipped 8 times so it was really potent. well heres my story of someone really tripping out. there was a guy i wont reveal his name but ill call him john. he took 8 of them one day at school which is like taking 64 of the single dipped acid. well it was around the time was getting out of school and i was heading out to the football field for practice and then what do u know theres a naked guy running out to the field. well he was yelling the devil is in me the devil is in e . so the coached asked anyone to taclke him and help him. well it eneded up taking like 8 of us to get him down and he trying to rip his wanker off saying that the devil was in his wanker. he got so close that he literally ripped the skin all thatw ay around his wanker. pretty insane. i never heard of that kid since then. dont know if he is in a mental hospital or what. it was funny at the time but now that i think of it it was rpetty scary because that could have been me. lol

I think it should be leagalized!!! I love it, but I can't do it. My job gives random tests and you just never know when it will be your turn. I tell you though, everything is better on it. The only thing that gets most people caught it the strong smell...keep it out of your car and keep it in a plastic container so non-smoker's can't smell it when it's not lit up.
