I just took my Tracker in for an oil change. It was one of those places where you do not get out of the car, they give you a coffee etc and the newspaper.

Well first they suggested that I get the high milage oil, then they said my read need to be flushed, then the engine should be flushed because it was a while since I had an oil change (2 years, i know I am bad) then they tried to sell me a air filter, wiper blades, said the transmission fluid should be changed, the rear differential for the 4 wheel drive should have a fluid change, Ii should buy this additive to clean out the fuel system etc.The two guys were both at my car window trying to get me to get it all done. One guy actually started to lean into my car window.

Well I left there with the oil change and the engine flush only. I can pick up an air filter and change it myself cheaper then it was going to cost me there. As it was it cost me 72.00 with a 10.00 discount.

My biggest complaint is that I did not like their high pressure sales tactics. Needless to say I will not be going back to that place. Have any of you other females felt like you were getting bullied into buying stuff??

Not so much bullied just sometimes they act as if you dont know your head from your tail . Sometimes it is better to go into a place with a brother or a guy but if you must go alone simply do a little homework first to brush up on things . It will catch them off guard and who knows maybe you will turn a head or 2 at the same time LOL -

whenever i run into a situation like this, i mention something about my husband sent me to do this because he's busy..... and i give him an occupation of the person trying to sell me more than i need. Eg. My's husband's a mechanic and he told me to just get a quick oil change because he's real busy right now. I'll make sure and mention the problems to him when i get back home.

or if i go to get an estimate on painting the stang..... I'll say my husband's a painter and toooo busy to paint my car......

or my husband's a plumber, but he's out of town and told me to phone you to check the pipes

it doesn't work all the time, but it normally stops them from trying to SELL unneeded repairs etc.... on me. BUT it USUALLY does bring up questions about the hubby's job, lol, so just wing it, us females are normally pretty good about bs'ing and sounding like we know what we're talking about.

I use to date a mechanic a long time ago and I still remember the one time he was doing something on my car and asked me to look at something under the hood. After he asked me how many times has a mechanic asked me to do that and i said pretty well all the time. Well I was informed that that was just so they could look down my top while I was leaning forwrd.

I already knew the price of the air filter and the one that they wanted to install was going to cost me double the price. I am glad that I am not a total idiot and can do some maintence on my car.

ha ha ha, that's a good one, never thought of that...... (the looking downn your shirt)

I'm glad the other half is sorta a jack of all trades he's showed me a whole bunch of stuff about everything..... but mechanics, i took a mechanic class before so i'd know the jist of things and would instantly know when i'm been taken for..... I like talking about things that I DO KNOW ABOUT, then the guys are like WTF, I thought chicks didn't know this ****.

the funny part is there was a lady in the bay next to me and her car was using oil big time. She was telling the guy that she had to keep adding oil every week and wanted to know what would happen if she just let it run out of oil and ran it like that. I almost started to laugh. At least know the basics if you are going to own a car. It is woman like her that give the rest of us a bad name.:)
