    Default Stories- How We Met

I just got another idea for a thread that could be interesting for us and allow us to learn more about our members. For all of us who are in a relationship, post here about how you and your significant other met! I'll go first, with klinkman's and my story, as well as the story about our proposal.

    How We Met:

Matt and Tay met in 2006 through a mutual friend while attending the University of Tulsa. Though they ran into each other occasionally, their friendship never took off until early 2007, when Tay attended a university-sponsored Game Show night featuring The Price Is Right.

Tay attended alone, and when she arrived she knew no one there. A short time later, Matt came in, and since Tay was also the only other person he knew there, he took a seat beside her. Neither one of them got picked to "Come on down!" that night, so they spent much of the evening talking and laughing with each other. At the end of the show, Matt walked Tay out to her car and said goodnight. Until later on that year, neither of them thought much about that night, nor did they spend any more time with each other than they had since they met.

On May 17, 2007, Tay found out from a doctor in Dallas, TX that she would need surgery on her bicep. That night, she posted about it on her Facebook, and the next morning she had a message from Matt sending Get Well wishes. Having not talked in a while, they spent the afternoon messaging each other back and forth while Tay was heading back to Tulsa, trying to arrange a time to get together and catch up, though Tay intended the reunion to be purely platonic.

When Tay returned that evening, she and Matt began to talk to each other via instant message, and it soon became clear to her that Matt was interested in her as more than just a friend, and it was easy to admit to herself that she probably thought of him the same way.

After they expressed their feelings for each other, their relationship became official on May 18, 2007. The next day, Tay was planning to attend Shrek 3 with friends, so she invited her new boyfriend to come along. Even though Matt was not much of a movie person, he accepted the invitation, and they had their first date. And they both lived happily ever after!

    How We Got Engaged:

Tay first suspected in October 2008 that Matt might be proposing soon, because they were sitting at work together while he was talking to his mom on the phone, and they were definitely discussing her ring size.

From what she could piece together at the time, Matt's mom would be coming to see Tay graduate and she would be bringing the ring (which it sounded like would be related to his grandmother in some way) with her on the flight. A few days later after Tay had sent out graduation announcements she asked Matt if his mom would be able to come in town, and he told her that she wouldn't, even though he had booked a flight for her later that night of their conversation about Tay's ring.

Matt's mom did end up flying into town for graduation, and even though Tay didn't have confirmation that she had a ring with her, she thought Matt might propose either on her birthday or after he came back from Christmas break.

When he didn't propose on her birthday, she really didn't think there'd be time until after he got back to Tulsa again after the holidays, and she was really okay with that. Graduation the next day was going to be crazy and Tay was nervous!

Matt proposed to Tay right after graduation while they were standing around talking to family and friends. He got Tay's attention, then got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of his suit jacket, and asked her to marry him. She of course said yes! As far as the story behind the ring, the diamond is the stone from his gramma's engagement ring- he had it placed in a new setting for her!

okay well me and my wife havent been married for 12 years but we have lived with eachother since day one. so we say we have been married for 12 years. well we met in 1997. my buddy moved into some apartments and then like 2 months later a bunch of sorority girls move in on the 2nd floor above him. well we all take notice and damn there she is my love of my life (didnt know her name yet lol). well the apts were so small that there were only 6 of them. so very tight tenants. well we use to play dominos all the time and low and behold the prissy sorority girls ask to play. so we say go ahead. well we all get to chatting and i tell my future wife that i do car stereos well she says hey can u fix mine (i got my foot in the door) i said sure i can she said how much u charge i said well see. well she just needed a new amp so i fix it for her one night and she asked for payment and i said a 12 pack of coronas. well she agrees and drinks more than half and gets sick. well i end up taking caring of her that night and never left. kinda wierd how things work. i wasnt really into dating at that time i was more into drinking and clubs. well like 3 years later we have our 1st child in 2000 and we actually get married in 2003 and we have our second child in 2006. i will tell u this with all the trial and trubulations that we have gone through i think it has made me the man i am today. my dad wasnt much help but my wife is the best. i cherish every day i have with them. life is great. to all who have a significant other u better cherish them because when they are gone there is no going back. well my 2 cents thanks for reading.

That was a really nice story, Glo. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I think it's really amazing when our significant others see us at our worst and don't leave. That's when you know you've found a keeper. If you can live through each other's worst moments and still be in love, that is part of the deepest love two people can share in life. I'm sure that love strengthens your children as well. Kudos to you. I only question ending up with a sorority girl, but it sounds like it worked out well so I won't say anything. LOL just messing with you bro. See you at the tables soon.

yeah well the sorority girl wasnt my 1st choice but it was my best choice. u know i never pictured myself with one but its funny how things work out. good for me. yeah my kids are great but dont be fooled it is tough but very rewarding. i was brought up with my dad until i was 10 then my mom and dad divorced and i went with my mom to california. so life was tough for me growing up with a single mom( very poor) but she worked hard for the things i needed and i think i learned that from her because thats what i do so i can provide for my kids. they are great and knuckleheads at the same time. lol so i hope u dont mind me asking. so do u have a type of dwarfism. i just wanted to know. i watch little people big world and i am so intrigued by it. u know i was one of those kids that made fun of them but now i see them as regualr people. the things u do when u are a kid and dont know much about the world. for klinkman to look past that tells what kind of person he is. i got much admiration for him. well u guys were meant for eachother and thats always a good thing. take care.

I don't mind you asking at all. I realize I've been quiet about my handicap here (I don't like the word disability because it implies not being able to do things and I definitely am able to do many things!) but there's really no reason for my silence. I guess I felt that it was kind of irrelevant, but it's definitely not something I'm ashamed of or wish to hide by any means. I was born with a birth defect called spina bifida- the Wikipedia page provides a lot of information, as well as sacralagenesis (missing part of my sacrum, part of the spine but not the same as spina bifida) which I think accounts for the short stature. It can be annoying at times but there are also some advantages to being short! I agree with you that it means so much for my fiance to look past my handicaps and love me for the person I am. Klinkman and I look out for each other, and we thrive on taking care of and being there for the other person. What ultimately ties us together so strongly is our innate understanding of each other- no one gets us and all our little quirks like we understand each other. It really is a beautiful thing. But yeah, that's the information about me! I hope that clears things up! Thanks for asking and I apologize for not "outing" myself, lol.

    Talking

Well.....I also have been married for twelve years. I married my drinking buddy. A man named Tony from Duluth, MN. I know one day NDN will come into our life, in person, in Duluth....that will create another story, I'm sure. My husband's family is still there, so I like the idea of having an NDN family there also, or maybe NDN was just drunk when he was running his mouth... Anyway, Tony and I were friends a couple of years before we hooked up. I was a bartender and a shot girl before he was old enough to get thru the front door. His friends would sneak him thru the kitchen....I worked at the hottest night club in town. Selling shots, wearing a thong, bra, and 3 inch heels!!! Action til 4am 7 days a week!!!!! He would meet me at happy hour (when he was old enough) with all of my girlfriends and we would all just talk. I never thought we would date, much less get married...and now he knows ALL of my secrets. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never told him half the stuff I told him!!!! Oh well, good and bad...turns out its all good. I told him if he's going to be married to me he has to learn how to play golf. I love golf!!! I gave him 3 chances to walk away because "I ain't changin' for nobody" I like to drink, gamble, and smoke 420. If you can't handle that then it won't work-just honest. He hates 420, but luvs me. He said I'll drink with you, but if you're going to gamble you have to work and here we are today enjoying life. Golf, poker, horses, the beach, life is GOOD!!!!! Oh yeah..,our 1st movie was Shriek!!!! I love to rock his world and make memories that last a lifetime. That shock-effect is awesome!!!!

Pokerkitty - Grab your husband and head to Duluth June 19-21. It's Grandma's Marathon weekend (if you don't know what that is ask the Mr.). Anyhow, there is a great local band playing Friday & Saturday and it'll be a blast! It's a good excuse to see the in-laws too I suppose.

Lets see My fiancee and I met at work. At the time we worked at SNBL USA which is a biomedical laboratory. I had a girlfriend of 6 years and she had a boyfriend of 6 years. Two weeks after we both started working we started talking and flirting with each other.

One day after work she had given me a ride back to my apartment. I was too nervous to ask her in and plus we still had significant others. About two hours of dropping me off she made some excuse to start a fight with her boyfriend and gave me a call. She came over to the apartment and we have been together ever since. As of today it will be three years and one week.

Yes we moved way to fast in our relationship as she started living with me from the first day she came over. We skipped a thousands steps but it all worked out for the better. Everything happens for a reason.

I met my wife on something called gab line. Most of you are probably too young to remember, but before there was much of an internet, there were a lot of party line things. Not like the ones they advertise on tv that are really phone sex lines, but free party phone lines that people, mostly teenagers, called and if they liked each other exchanged regular phone numbers.

Anyway there were a bunch of people arguing and it was mostly a bunch of racist bull****, and my (now) wife who is black called the people out for being racist assholes. They didn't believe she was black and started calling her "Edina girl" (Edina is a suburb of Minneapolis that at the time was mostly Upper middle class whites) and telling her to go back to her computer. I guess they thought she sounded white. I then asked them how they could tell just by someone's voice. They said they just could. I asked them what I was then. They all said I was black. Which is what I expected, I had a relatively deep voice, and for some reason that makes people think I am black. When I told them I was white, they started yelling and telling me I was lying and that I didn't need to stick up for the "little white girl".

At this point both of us were sick of arguing. I gave her my phone number. We talked for the next 13 hours. Talking about everything. By the time we were done we had even talked about how we felt about kids, marriage, pretty much everything. We went on our first date (a total disaster that I'll maybe tell you about another time) a few weeks later. Despite the first date disaster we gave it another chance and have been together pretty much ever since.
