    Default Special Characters

Some folks here have been interested in learning how to do some of the special key characters.

First thing you must do is make sure that number lock is on and that you use the numeric keypad for any of the numbers involved in the generation of the characters using the alt key. For example:

    alt+1=☺ alt+3=♥
    alt+2=☻ alt+4=♦
    alt+5=♣ alt+6=♠

There are also combinations of numbers that you may use. Simply hold down the alt key, insert all the numbers then release the alt key, like this:

    alt+10=◙ alt+11=♂
    alt+12=♀ alt+13=♪
    alt+14=♫ alt+21=§

You may also use 3 or even four digits to create a character like this:

    alt+145=æ alt+146=Æ
    alt+0174=® alt+0169=©

There are alot of different combination that you can come up with to get a character, so play around, throw some numbers together, and see if you can come up with something you like! Have fun!

Ok this is what I could find for mac users, which is the same basic idea, just using different keys here it is:

For Mac OS, first hold down the Option key then a regular character key as indicated below. Nothing will appear on your screen at this point. Release both keys, and then type the letter which should carry the diacritical. For some special characters press Option and one key together. See the following table to get the character that you want:

    Option + e + vowel = á, é, í, ó, ú
    Option + ` + vowel = à, è, ì, ò, ù
    Option + i + vowel = â, ê, î, ô, û
    Option + u + vowel = ä, ë, ï, ö, ü
    Option + c = ç
    Option + a = å
    Option + o = ø
    Option + q = œ
    Option + ' = æ
    Option + s = ß
    Option + shift + ? = ¿
    Option + 1 = ¡
    Option + n + n = ñ

Of, course you will have to do some fiddling around with different key combinations to come up with all kinds of characters not listed above, so try it out, see what you like.
