    Default Ever fold AA preflop??

Is there ever a reason to fold pocket Aces preflop?? For example the other day in a 1vip freeroll at carbon I held pocket ACES and had 2 all-ins in front of me and i believe my stack was somewhere in the middle range of the remaining 30 players with the top 12 spots paying off with entries. I felt I had no choice but to call and ended up losing entire stack to the chip leader who held 7 8 suited and hit his gut shot straight on the river. I understand Aces will not always hold up but at that stage in the tourney should I have layed down my hand knowing that with 2 other hands in the mix there was a good chance of being out dealt?? Just really hard for me to ever consider folding Aces preflop. Any insight would be appreciated.

the only time it is proper to fold a HUGE hand in a preflop situation is when you are playing a sattellite where the top 20 or so get a ticket to the next round and it's bubble time, i usually fold all day long, ESPECIALLY when i have a ncie stack. Let other people get there money in there and gamble.

I dont think I have the willpower to fold AA preflop its never happened,, but yes I might if I was bubbleboy and it was in my best interest not to double anyone up. I still dont think I would EVER!!

Thanx guys! Whenever it is close to bubbletime and Im tops in chips I always tell myself to just sit back and let everyone else fight it out for a bit to at least ensure a good placing but then I always seem to get playable hands and cant get away from throwing chips out and getting caught and then its back to square one fighting again lol

It would depend on the current standings, current chip count and the tourney. If watching other people go all in on their weak hands would end up paying out a top poisition i wouldn't hesitate to fold aa or risk being burned like you were and going out without nothing after all the time spent playing.

After years of playing online poker it seems AA isn't worth going all in and being put out. One nite on cake poker i was put out of 2 tourneys with pocket kings against pocket 8's and both times they flopped quads.

I haven't deposited back in cake since that nightmarish night

Yeah, there is never a right time to fold ace. Folding Kings isn't so hard though. I try to never put all my money in the middle with kings if my stack is big enough. I like to make sure I avoid aces on the flop before pushing.

I really like the comment u made about making sure you at least avoid aces on the flop. I think way to many people always seem to just automatically push with their kings. And the worst part about it is when you push with kings it seems like its not the AK or AQ that you worry about its the players that just love an Ace in their hand and call your all in with Ace rag on a constant basis. And of course it always happens that POW theres hat A on the flop and uyou end up sitting back saying how the **** did he call that all in with A 6 off suit lol. Great advice terp!

I think its ok to fold AA when u are on a bubble and more than 2 persons before you goes all-in. If more than 5 players are going all-in u have a huge chance of loosing with AA. But I think if its only one person going all-in I would always call.

Screw being scared of the bubble. If 5 people are all in in front of me and I'm on the bubble, it's a perfect opportunity to quintuple up and position yourself for a run towards the final table.

Ya thats understandable. I guess you wanna assure yourself the cashing at least and not take the chance knowing you can always get outdrawn. That position sucks at the same time because almost guaranteed that the big stack is just bullying with some medicore hand but tough to chance it.

Nice to know it was an easy fold. I think folding AA would never be an easy fold. But sometimes u must do it for the sake of your stack. Nice approach Juanu.

Well at that point I was pretty much folding everything. In most cases it would be a hard hand to fold although I know there have been other times I have done it. And a lot of times that I just wish I had.

The weird thing is it wasn't helping him any. He was sure to cash and he wasn't improving his position in any way if he won. Just risking it if he lost. Dumb play.

There is no reason to fold aces preflop as you are winning before the flop. I have seen a guy fold aces at a casino once. He folded because he lost with pocket aces five times that night. Unfortunately the time he folds aces he would have won a huge pot. Why does it always happen like that??? I guess for that guy it was not his night.

In a cash game I agree with you. In tourneys, especially satellite tourneys where several, or even hundreds of positions, are all paid the same amount a fold can be the right option.

I have never ever folded AA preflop in tourneys or live games. i have never seen anyone do the same. However, If I was deep in a tourney and was close itm I would more than likely fold if there were four or more callers pre flop. As for in a real $$$ game. It would be very very hard for me to fold pre-flop.
