Yale Student's Murder

Hey guys I was just wondering if any of you had been following the story of Annie Le, the Yale graduate student who was found dead a week or so ago.

Personally being a female graduate student it definitely gives me pause, but I realize I'm not as involved as she was in research type scenarios or workplace drama so for something quite like that to happen to me is unlikely.

I am pleased at how quickly and smoothly the investigation seems to be going, but at the same time I wish law enforcement would be this vigilant about other crimes as well. This may be wrong of me but a lot of me thinks that if this hadn't happened on a college campus to a young pretty girl who just happened to be extremely close to her dream wedding day to what sounds to be a great guy, it wouldn't be investigated so thoroughly in an attempt to get things as right as humanly possible.

I know there's supposedly DNA evidence implicating the guy they arrested in the last day or so, but I'll be watching closely to see how it all plays out. I suspect the prosecution is going to be seeking the death penalty in this case. I gotta say that although I definitely feel for the family of both the victim and her fiance in this case, I still don't think I support the death penalty here. That's just my personal opinion, especially if the guy they arrested did it, as it seems right now at least that if that is the case, he knows it and was expecting to get arrested and maybe even die for it. I don't think that criminals should be "given what they want" first of all, and I think many of the guilty criminals in capital cases know exactly what is at stake and are oftentimes ready or even anxious to die, sometimes as a sense of martyrdom or whatever. And I don't think they should be given that choice, personally. On the other hand, I've also seen way too many cases where all the evidence points to this horrific crime being committed by a specific individual, when in reality the evidence just happens to only coincide with what happened in such a way to implicate someone innocent. I really hope that doesn't happen here and the DA really does their work on the case.

Having said that this isn't meant to be a death penalty debate but merely a discussion about the situation. I know others of us here are college students, and even more of us were college students fairly recently or know someone who is. So what do you all think about this? I'm definitely interested to hear your thoughts. And if I need to I can post some articles with background about the case, in case this post piqued your interest but you hadn't really heard about it before.

Yes I have been paying close attention in this case as well, and i am not too sure that guy is guilty as of yet. It depends on what type of DNA evidence is being implicated. If it is just circumstantial, like a hair, oh some skin shedding, well those could of came about through mutaul or even personal contact with the victim. Maybe they were friends. I am gonna stand on nuetral ground till I hear about this DNA evidence, and exactly what it is.

Well from what I seen the guy was a control freak with just a high school diploma,I think he's a lab Tech.Several others say he had a bad attidude,of course that don't make him guilty.As They woulda fried me long ago.The only thing is Tay there wern't alot people that had acess,so I think he probally did it and should be fried, she was as you said a very bright and pretty girl.To damm bad we got some bad peeps in this world.

I had only read headlines until now so I went back and read a few articles about her murder. We do hear from time to time about a guy who spends 20 years in prison only to find out that he wasn't guilty, BUT they discovered he was innocent because of the forensic tools (can you tell I'm a CSI fan? Las Vegas, of course!!) that they have available today that they didn't have back then. So, my feeling is that with all the tests they have to check blood, fingerprints, etc., that during this trial, it will become very clear whether or not he murdered her. I'm gonna sound like Brass for a moment when I say, "okay, let me tell you how I think I went down.." lol I think he got pissed because she didn't keep the cages as clean as he liked, he sends her the text message to tell her to meet so they could discuss it, she tells him "i'm the scientist, you're the janitor, take a long walk off a short pier", he chokes her and hides her body. Time will tell and now I'll be following the story more closely. As for the death penalty, my gut reaction is that it is never right to take a human life. That being said, I don't want tax dollars wasted on keeping someone like Charles Manson (or anyone else who the evidence clearly proved to be guilty of something like murder or child molestation) in prison where they are warm and fed and can take college courses and play checkers all day. If I were on a jury and I had to decide how to sentence a young man who murdered a young woman because she didn't keep mouse cages clean, I would shed a tear for all involved as I chose the death penalty.

i will have to google it and see the fact because they aren't mentioned in the original post but thanks for letting me know about it and i'll post my thoughts after I read up on it.
