    Default Favorite Old Gaming System

Mr307 visited me in Buffalo a couple of months ago and brought with him an original Nintendo and about 40 games or so. Needless to say we went through a large amount of beer and relived our childhood all over again. Then, just two days ago a golf buddy of mine showed me an original Atari all hooked up and ready to play. So it got me thinking about the old gaming systems. Obviously the graphics weren't the best but I just love playing the old systems. So I just want to see which one we all like the best.

I definitely vote for Nintendo. I have had all four systems at one point or another but Nintendo is by far my favorite. I just love all the games and all the little cheats that you could do to make the games even better.

I definitely agree eej. But any sytem I played in college isn't old school enough for me. Goldeneye was a great game and Mariokart might be the best racing game ever.

mariokart was and still is my all time favorite game. I think it would be really really cool if we could all get together and have an online mariokart competition, that would be that chit right there. nintendo will always have a special place in my gamers heart, but im am gonna have to go with the playstation as it had so many more racing games, which is my fav type game.

I just like the Nintendo because there is a directional pad and two buttons. All these new systems pratically require you to take a course on how to use the controllers for each game. So many damn buttons and sticks and triggers makes the game much less enjoyable.

I've been thinking a lot about which games for which systems are the best and here are my choices.

    Nintendo: Sports-Mike Tyson's Punchout, Action-SuperMario3, RPG-Dragon Warrior
    Sega: Sports-NBA Live 95, Action-Sonic
    ColecoVision: DonkeyKong Jr.
    Atari: Frogger, Combat

I can't believe that Intellivison isn't a part of this poll!! I'm glad Lilred mentioned it, because I was starting to think I was too old to play in this thread.

I have to go with Sega. I missed my junior year of college playing Shadowrun on Sega (don't worry... I made up the classes the next year )
I briefly considered Nintendo . . . I was unstoppable at TechmoBowl and Super Contra . . . but I had to go with Sega in the end. Nintendo's D-pad had those sharp corners that would leave a blister on my thumb and force me to go on the disabled list in the middle of our Techmo season.

I'd tend to agree with Arsenal, though. If I played it in college, it's not an "old" system to me. That pretty much narrows it down to Atari, Intellivision, and Colecovision. Oh, and Pong . . . but I'm not quite that old.

    Can I write in Intellivision?

Mines out of the poll would have to be nintendo, the game would be Mike tyson's punch out... The best old school game console has got to be N64. You can drop that console down the stairs and it would still work. Someone said goldeneye. Ah man you really started something now. How about some four player action on that game??? I used to rule that game. In fact when I see my friends that is one subject that always comes up. I also like rainbow 6 on the N64 as well.

this is my time and boy i must have put in one hundred thousands hours into this system, mario bros had the most of my time.but i think it was the best system ever, and the one in time now will never match up.i mean grapics no,but just game play, gamers have to look at the past at some of those game and make the grapics better, but keep the game simple for the kids.
truth is the games now a days i dont play and i wish i was as good a w as when i was i young lad,im dodo now and everyone beats me.so bring back some of the games of my glory days so i can take back my title, and put my skills back on display.

I think I stayed up for a month straight working and gaming nothing else lol the hockey,, the helicopters,,the sports,, shooters like max payne,,and the racing omg they all rocked!! I still have most of those systems with a ton of games each!! but now its all computer I cant stop myself,, video card upgrades every day seems like lol,, motherboard upgrades,, flat panel monitor,, hardrive ect ect it has gotten out of hand but love it too much,, my next one will be liquid cooled this one is the first one I have overclocked and she gets hot!!would have been alot cheaper to get ps3 but cant shake the computer yet!! and I wonder why girlfriends hate me lmao

I would have to say Nintendo. Back in the day I used to buy, sell, and trade Nintendo and Sega. I had three phone numbers in my house, one to buy with, one to sell with, and one for family and friends. I was one of the first people in the states to have a tv with a nintendo built in. I was also one of the first to have 250 games on one cartridge. I had a nintendo room set up in my house when people could try a game before they bought it. I had alot of traffic back then, it had to look funny, but it was just Nintendo. I would run ads in the newspaper to buy and sell. I always had cash back then, always a roll. One year for Christmas, I gave my little brothers and sisters, a couple Ninendo systems and 52 games. They went crazy like mad little children running thru the house screaming. I was the best big sister! I got all the "first" in the states because I rented one of my rooms to a Japanese golf pro. When he would go home, he would stock up and mail me my inventory. The 250 games in one....cost me $5. Huge profit margin, I always sold out. Parents loved that game and so did the kids. I even sold super mario clocks. You should see a phone bill from the states to Japan. It was over $1,000 I freaked out and my roommate said calm down, wrote me a check and paid for all of my calls too. His name was Andy Wada and I miss him, he was a very good roommate! Rent was always on time! After a while I had to quit my little side business because it got too scary. People would show up late at night. Some people would come and stay for hours. I got very lucky I didn't get hurt or robbed.
