    Default Did you know?

My husband found a motor on Craigslist that he wanted to buy for a truck he is restoring. But the motor was in Placerville which is about 100 plus miles from where we live. His truck is not running well so we went to rent a U-Haul trailer so we could take my car. We went all the way to Yuba City to rent this trailer to find after everything was done that U-Haul will not rent anything to a Ford Explorer. We asked why but the guy wasn't sure "imagine that", he just knows that they Do Not rent anything for a Ford Explorer. Any way does anybody know anything about this? Since several of us own them.

To end the story he went and got the motor tonight another way that cost a lot more money. But oh well he got the damn motor.

You should have asked on the forum.
This happened to me last summer.
    I have a 1999 Explorer.
They are not made to tow heavy objects.
I have a flat tire this morning, blah.

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer and I think it has something to do with the famous roll overs. Every year I think this Ford can't keep going and it does. I'm just waiting for it to break down and so far it never has. I paid $3,000 for it about 8 years ago and it just keeps on going. I really got my money's worth of it. With a family my size, I was looking for a vehicle with the most seat belts so I can take the kids in groups. Groups are better for me because if I took them one at a time, I would have kids 24/7!!! Funny how life happens!

Had it crossed my mind that they wouldn't or even might not rent to someone with an Explorer I would have asked. But I had no Idea. I just assumed that it would be like anything else. Just fill out the paperwork, pay the money, and go.

I am sorry that you have a flat tire this morning Ringo. That totally sucks! I wonder if you ran over a nail or something of the sort. Hopefully you can just put a plug in it. But nicer yet would be just air it up and it stays.

The guy said it was something that happened between U-Haul and a Ford Explorer some time ago. ??? They porb got sued or something I figure.

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer, it is a V8. I love it! Prob is my favorite vehicle out of all the vehicles that i have ever owned. At least as far as comfort and driving goes. I got a wonderful deal as I bought it from my mommy and daddy who paid much more than the $1000.00 I paid for it. So I am thankful and knock on wood It has been little trouble in the last 4 years. I did have to get a new radiator but I knew that when I bought. I also had to change the Air conditioning pump and I have changed both of the head lights once. But that's not bad for four years.

Yes life is interesting, isn't it?

Wow! We live pretty darn close then. That is cool! And thanks I am sorry to hear that it happened to your sister.

And just for the record, "getting that motor was far, far, far from my priority list!" But Brandon has his priorities in a different order than I have mine. I guess it was cool for him though.

Well you sure can't beat any of that. It cost an arm and a leg around here to go to the dump.

But even though it is free flat repair for life it would still suck to have to go get repaired all the time so tell them to get it right the first time. Cause you don't want to see them again for a while. But wait till they say they will do the trailer tire first. Or Just be nice! Have a fun day Ringo!

Thanks Navuta, I can't pull up the video right now because of my connection but the car looks pretty cool from where I am setting anyway. But I don't think I would transport a big old motor in it.

The vote at Les Schwabs was Bounty on their heads 3-0
Got both tires fixed, had pin hole in explorer tire and needed new valve on trailer tire,

    It's another fine day.

Funny as this may sound to you, I am a Chevy person and my Husband is a Chevy person but now I drive a Ford Explored, he drives a Ford Ranger and the Old truck he is restoring is a 57 or 58 Ford. Pathetic I know. But I have to tell you that I do love my Explorer. But I'd rather drive a Tahoe. It's all about money!

I will upload a pic for you later.

And that is a Chevy! I wouldn't mind having one of those myself. Have you seen the brand new Cadillac yet. Now that is a sharp looking car too. In my opinion. Although I have never wanted a Cadillac as they seem like big cars. Well not the new one.

My first car was a 65 mustang, then I got a 66 mustang.
I day never went by that I wasn't fixing in my fords.
I did rebuid the engine and raced in Freemont and hit a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile once. Fast for a street car.

Lol GloBug, that would be one Sweeeeet car. That is for sure. I almost can't wait for you to have your midlife crisis. I have had a couple of midlife crises, but they never seem to do me a darn bit of good. Anyway I had a friend in high school that had a 65 Chevy 2 door Malibu hard top. It was a light metallic green. It was cherried out! It was one bad butt ride and that's a fact.

Ringo that is not a bad first ride! Pretty darn good ride. I have seen some Sick Mustangs. I have even driven a brand new one that belongs to a friend of mine in Woodland. 2003 I believe it was. It was a convertable, but that sad thing about these is they don't make them as fast as the hard tops. I assume for safety precautions.

Now my dad once upon a time many years ago when I was very young like 5 years old, had a white 69 Ford T Bird Rag top. I remember getting to push the button so the top would come up. Man I thought that was the best thing since McDonalds and Happy Meals. I felt the separation of the socially rich and poor. Cause The shinny cars and rag tops were for the rich and the rest belonged to the less fortunate. Isn't that something. To actually feel such things at such a young age?

My dad being a die hard Chevy man to this day makes that hard to explain but that T Bird was some car. I still can't believe he sold it. But Times got tuff and there were bills to pay. Made me realize the rich were not rich at all but just the normal middle class folk. I love cars! And I have owned some cool rides. Thanks for sharing!

Wow guys, this thread has exploded! What lively discussion! I feel kinda left out, as I don't drive (yet?), but that's okay, it's been fun to read. As for me, right now Klinkman drives my parent's 2006 Toyota Sienna "soccer van" with a ramp equipped around to take me places. If I could though, my dream car would be a Mini Cooper- those things are so cute and sexy! No, I have not seen The Italian Job, but I know they're everywhere in that movie. I'm not much of a car girl I guess, but I do like that one. I definitely don't see the appeal of the Corvette though, that thing is ugly. Except for the one they're giving to the WSOP champions winner, that one's not bad lol. So yeah, I don't have any good stories to tell like you guys, but there's my two cents for this thread lol.
