Default Sales Tips for Eejits new job

This thread is to help Eejit in his new career.
Some of us who have had sales experience should share how they were or were not successful in sales.
    Include the do's and don'ts.

    1. Stay upbeat and postive on the phone, people hate to listen to people who sound like they are reading a script.
    2. Don't be too upbeat, people hate bubbly solicitors
    3. Believe in your product. Think about this long and hard. Could you sell something that you would not buy yourself.
    4. Use examples of recent sales in the same industry to challenge the customer to keep up with the competition. Becareful with this one, can get you in trouble if not worded right.
    5. Always ask your potential customer first off, what is their biggest problem they face as a business operator.
Then tell them what you can do to solve or lessen their problem.
So many salesman have such big Egos that they talk too much about their product and themselves, instead of listening and finding out what the customers needs are.
    6. Get the customer talking to you as soon as possible, this will engage them into taking an interest in what you are selling.
    7. Numbers numbers numbers, the more calls you make the more sales you get.
    8. Find out after you have had some success at work if you can telecommute from home a few days a week. You will have better success at telephone sales if you can walk around, smoke a cig and be comfortable.
    9. Get plenty of sleep
    10. Brown nose the boss

I think it should depend on the job, but I have had experience in sales in the past and this is my advice to eejit.

If you are trying to set up an appointment with a future client, don't ask them when they are available.

That's too easy of an out for them to not want to commit to anything.

Tell them the date and time, you have available during the middle of your sales pitch.

    Not the end.

By doing this, it narrows it down for them, and they are able to see that it wouldn't be that hard, because July 29th at 3 is when whoever is coming by, or when I have an appointment.

By the way the date was just the example.

I did sales for an air conditioning company and this worked like a charm.

I got comission every paycheck or almost every paycheck because of this little tip and advice I got from one of the employees.

What do u guys think i do???

ITs a blatent pointless sell, its abusing a system people dont know about.

They can do this themselves for next to nothing.

And im swapping to a different but similar company in 3 weeks. Better money.

I didn't know what you did.

I thought you were in sales from this thread and I was just offering some advice.

Apparently you aren't in the type of sales where it would benefit you using my tip.

    Never mind then I guess.

    What do you sell though?
