What to do with AK suited

OK so i was played a 6 person SNG b/c i haven't lpayed a SNG in like 4 months......and i am 2nd in chips 5 players remain and the chip leader 1st to acts raises the BB 5 times...blinds at 20-40 he makes it 200 i am on the Button with AhKh.....at this poaint do i smooth calls and decieve the styrength of my hand or to i reraise him to see where he is at?????

I chose to reraise to 475 and he smooth called ....the flop fell Q 4 2 and he checked to me...so i checked behind...turn j again check check river anotehr 4 and check check he shows down 77.......i feel with a bet on flop or turn i could have taken he pot down...obviosly this is after seeing his hand...but what if he had AQ QQ Aa or KK and was just slow playing it???

Yea, AK, especially suited, is definately one of the toughest hands to play. I think for your situation, you were showing great strength preflop, with a reraise of his huge raise. You're almost telling him that you want him in the pot because youre confident youll win. When you raise 200 to 475, its barely a half raise; its hard to put you on a bluff, especially preflop, because youre betting so small, its moe likely that you have a big hand.

Regardless of the flop, i think you need to follow it up with a continuation bet. Especially for a flop like q24, there are really only so many hands that hell call you down with there. Its not like the flpop was 89T or something, where he could have a wide variety of hands that'll beat you. When you check the flop there, you really only could have a monster hand, or nothing, like AK. If you are going to go with a check on the flop,(which i dont think u should) you gotta make it look like u flopped the nuts or something, and put a moderate bet in on the turn. This guy is in a tough position calling a good reraise with 77 preflop, and with a board like that, its even more tough to call a good bet on the flop or river. There were definately spots where you could have taken this down.

I think the biggest thing, was following up your strong raise preflop with a continuation bet on the flop. With a hand like yours i think its best to put your money in pre flop and post flop. Decide how much money you are willing to spend on the hand. And spend it! You cant show weakness like that after that big of a raise, not only is it not sound for that individual hand, but your table image will suffer. youll be the "guy that raises big with nothing" or the "guy that bets big and then folds". Your bet on the flop was good (although there definately is some merit behind just calling) but it HAS to be followed on the flop with a bet of equal or greater size. If he calls both the preflop bet and the flop bet, THEN maybe its time to slow down; especially because you have position on the guy! he'll check to you on the turn, and youll be able to see a free river, and you wont be too pot committed.
Also after the second check on the turn, i think you can disregard the fact that he'd have a big hand like qq aq or whatever. I dont think someone with a hand like that would check twice, and allow you to hit something. So once he checks right there, its definately time for a bet. You cant put him on aces or kings, you cant put him on a set; you scared him with the reraise preflop, FOLLOW THROUGH. I just think overall that you have to be more agressive. When you fold a hand, fold it early so you dont lose too much. When youre going to play a hand, follow through with it. If you play too timid that kind of thing will happen. I know its hard putting chips in without a hand, or when you think your opponent has you beat, but jsut remember, its also hard for him to put in chips with 77 with a q24j boar, espcially the way the hand was played.
I hope some of this helped. Remember, Tight-agressive is the best way to go. Play good starting hands, and play them agressively. This reraise big preflop, and then check it down wont work. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and make a bet. IF youre planning on playing a hand, you gotta at lesat fire a couple bullets.

If your do not like this kind of reraise with AKs. You need to hit if he flat calls. As otherwise you have no idea where you are.

With the large size of his raise id assume he doesnt have AA or KK, and IMO id just shove over.

More often than not youll get a fold, but when you get called you can expect a low/mid pair or big Ace.

So eejit ur saying i should have shoved postflop????....i had about 1350 left......that woulod have been my only play if i wanted to fallow my preflop raise....swince i had commmited almost 1/3 my stack...sry i didn't include that b4...thats y i didn't continuation bet b/c if he has Aq or QQ i get my chips in almost dead there...was just a tought hand for me to play...maybe i shoulda smoothcalled preflop...but then it shows weakness also...tought hand to play
