Default A Religious and Scientific Complement

I saw a program on the history channel, where archaeologists discovered the remnants of some old rivers in the Persian Gulf, some that may have been spoken of in the Bible. I wrote a short summary for a class and I think it will be a good catalyst for discussion.

The book of Genesis writes the Garden of Eden was a paradise lost in the confluence of four rivers; the Tigres, Euphrates, Pison and Gihon. The later two were previously thought to be mythical tributaries. However, sea level in the Persian Gulf remarkably ascended subsequent to the decline of the Ice Age. Satellite imaging and modern archaeology have discovered the remnants of two waterways adjacent to the present day Tigres and Euphrates, existing in the said era. What has been thought as an intangible faith for incredulous generations, may be slowly surfacing as truth. And, though paradise may not exist in this lifetime; within the infinite margins of time, it may.

My summary is obviously written in religious optimism, since I consider myself a Christian. However, I'd like to hear other's thoughts on modern science and religion, whether it be supportive or contesting.
