Default My friend in WSOP Main event

This thread is basically a shoutout/ deep alert for a guy i know that is deep in the 2009 world series of poker main event. A coworker of mine staked his cousin in the main event a few years back, and he cashed so he thought he would give him a chance this year as well. The guys name is kevin schaffel, and is still in the main event even though there is only around 50 players left. I have played with this guy before and he is a solid player. Nobody you would want to play against as you always think he knows exactly what you have/ and what you are planning on doing.

So just keep an eye on him, obviously they are deep into the money, but im callin it right now that he will final table when all is said and done. So wish him luck!!

The table folded to Kevin Schaffel who raised to 425,000 from the cutoff, and it folded to Jamie Robbins who reraised to 1.355 million from the small blind. Ludovic Lacay folded from the big blind, and the action was back on Schaffel. Schaffel stood up and leaned over the table to get a better view of Robbins' chips. He sat back down, and after thirty seconds pushed his cards to the dealer. Schaffel has about 12.5 million still, and Robbins about 10 million.

Over on the secondary feature table, all folded around to Ben Lamb who raised to 410,000 from the small blind, and Kevin Schaffel called from the big blind. The flop came . Lamb promptly fired out 500,000, and Schaffel didn't waste much time letting it go. Lamb has 5.65 million, and Schaffel 11.7 million.

The pressure bet is one of the greatest weapons in a poker player's arsenal. Kevin Schaffel just used it to great effect. Schaffel opened the preflop action to 425,000. Jeff Shulman had the button and reraised to 1.4 million. Darvin Moon, with plenty of chips to burn, called that raise from the small blind, bringing the action back to Schaffel. Schaffel weighed his options before reraising to 5.8 million total. That was the pressure bet of the hand, inducing folds from Shulman and Moon. Schaffel now has 13.6 million chips.

Kevin Schaffel opened the pot to 600,000 and was called by Jordan Smith from the big blind. They took a heads-up flop that was all diamonds -- . Schaffel had first action from the small blind. He bet 850,000 and was called by Smith from the big blind. The turn brought another bet from Schaffel, 1.5 million chips this time. Again Smith called. A fourth diamond hit the river, . Schaffel finally checked to the player in position. Smith obliged with a bet of 2.0 million. "Maybe I'm bluffing with the best hand," said Smith. "I don't even have a diamond," replied Schaffel. He folded his hand. New counts: Schaffel: 8.5 million Smith: 16.5 million

Good Luck to Mr Schaffel. I hope he doesn't disgrace your hometown like Dennis Phillips did for us. I play with him on a regular basis, and given that he is awful, his debacle was foreshadowed to say the least. So I hope your shout out is for a skillful opponent, because not everyone can fit a camel through the eye of a needle, Jerry Yang style.

He isn't as bad as the picture I paint of him, but with his good results if I say he is decent, then he appears to be quite good. So I undervalue him to balance it out. And the tournaments at the riverboats are a big jip (except a 300bi they have every Thursday), so I don't play MTTs with Dennis often. Just ring games. Where he is an over confident loose-juice.

that tends to happen with some of these guys that do good in the WSOP. Watch some of the high stakes poker games with jamie gold. He is so horrible.

They just updated the list of people that the November nine, and I have to say I'm so excited for your friend, but more importantly for Phil Ivey!

He is by far my favorite poker player and is just brilliant as far as I'm concerned, but your friend has more chips than Ivey does.

And Now they both get to take a break and get training I'm assuming and get signed to poker rooms.

Your friend will probably get a deal, I'm sure.

Here's the list for anyone wanting to know.

    WSOP Final Table 2009 -

    1. Darvin Moon (Oakland, MD) – 58,930,000

    2. Eric Buchman (Valley Stream, NY) – 343,800,000

    3. Steve Begleiter (Chappaqua, NY) – 29,885,000

    4. Jeff Shulman (Las Vegas, NV) – 19,580,000

    5. Joe Cada (Shelby Township, MI) – 13,215,000

    6. Kevin Schaffel (Coral Springs, FL) – 12,390,000

    7. Phil Ivey (Las Vegas, NV) – 9,765,000

    8. Antione Saout (Paris, France) – 9,500,000

    9. James Ankenhead (London, England) – 6,800,000.

Not bad that he is in sixth. NOt bad at all.
