Actually I don't believe anything in the Constitution suggests that this is a Christian or Catholic nation. Especially Catholic, there were almost no Catholics in the new wold until the mid 19th century.

The Declaration of Independence does mention God, but the reference is to "Nature's God" and there is very little reason to believe that Jefferson was referring to a Christian god.

I said this because what maxpower quoted in the thread. I understand the difference but thank you very much for pointing it out.
