personally it's none of my business if a man wants to marry a man and a woman marry a woman. All marriage is is a piece of paper really and so be it should anybody wish to get married. Myself have never been married, just lived in sin for many years with my son's father. Maybe that is worse? but all the power to anybody who found a love so strong that they want to join get married. I hope to one day find that.
well if your a religous person then right there in the bible its plain as day. husband and wife....man and women.
I like the thread until i read the wah wah wah *** marriage part. My god, ive had it up to my freggin neck in this wah wah wah let us get married bullsh*t. Marriage is a CATHOLIC or CHRISTIAN thing, im sure they call it something else in other religions. YOU ARE IN A CATHOLIC AND CHRISTIAN NATION, so if you dont like it LEAVE. Why do u need a license to prove whatever u love u claim u have?WHY? It doesnt make any sense. I hate this political BS, it SOUNDS good when u say oh yeah *** marriage legalize it, it sounds like the right thing to say. I find it hilarious that these ***s cant even admit the other side of the arguement. When you ask to get married you are offending billions of people and their beliefs, but all the selfrighteous ***s never even consider that. Oh no, its about me and me getting married, me ,me ,me. Its a license, its a piece of paper saying something, thats it, it has no meaning, no power, its nothing. But wah wah wah all the time, i wanna get married, they should let me marry someone of the same sex. Fact is, marriage is a word, it doesnt matter. U love someone, buy a house and live together, why the HELL do u need a license saying that youre married, i think its a little dependant on other people dont u?? Makes me sick. Cant think of anything else that makes me more sick. *** pride parade, *** marriage, boo hoo. My god get over it. If anyone tries to mess with u for ur beliefs, leave or kill em. This wah wah baby bullsh*t is getting old. Forget what other people think, do what u want. end of story.
Unfortunately the problem with your view, which in a lot of ways makes sense, is that in this country many benefits, financial and otherwise, are only given to couples who are married. For many *** couples, they are upset about the inability to marry for the simple reason that if something were to happen to them, the ones they love may not be able to be taken care of or even be able to see and care for their ailing loved ones. If marriage were "just a piece of paper" that'd be one thing and your argument would have some application, but unfortunately it isn't.
You are right in your position that people shouldn't necessarily need a legal document to prove their love for each other, as true love is about much more than that. But speaking as an engaged woman, marriage is about coming before those you love and hold dear (and in many cases, standing before God) and verbally and physically making a commitment to one another in front of those people. It is about saying to one another that in this journey of life, I choose to spend my days with you, take care of you and love you in the presence of all the rest of the world, and I am not ashamed to have the world know that you are my spouse. I am not saying marriage is necessary to prove love, far from that it is an expression of that love.
My basic point though is that in this country especially, marriage is often indeed a religious ceremony, but it is always a legal bond between persons that carries with it rights and responsibilities. So unfortunately you cannot legally equate the rights and benefits given to married couples with those who are unmarried. And that is the heart of the *** marriage argument, in my opinion. Yes certain religious individuals may be *** and believe that their God/deity/whatever is supportive of *** marriage and wish to enter into a religious ceremony in addition to the legal bond, as many straight people do when they marry. But ultimately it is an argument over the rights and privileges currently only given to straight married couples in many parts of the country that insure care and security for their loved ones in marriage.
My goodness, lol are we a little against marriage? You are either a man that has been screwed over or your just terrified of commitment. Or ya just haven't had yearning for the ole ball and chain. Or maybe some serious pressure your not ready for ? I don't know but you meant this post didn't ya? Funny I can feel it!
Marriage as a worldwide phenomenon predates Christianity. Early Christians considered marriage to be a social convention that required neither religious or civil ceremony. There have been same sex unions around the world for as long as human history has been recorded. Long before Christianity existed.
Are you referring to the US as a Christian nation? That's highly debatable considering it was founded by Diests who believed in freedom of religion. I suggest that rather than telling people to move away if they don't like Christianity that you move away if you can't be tolerant of non Christian points of view.
I know what my religious beliefs are but I don't necessarily believe shouting at a group of people and telling them they are going to "Burn In Hell" is the proper thing to do.
Also our nation is an immigrant nation so there are many international and many beliefs from people all over the world so to say this is A Catholic, and Christian isn't fair, just because our constitutin said so about 300 years ago.
The bible also says not to have premarital sex, but if you do, I don't think you are going to Hell because there is forgiveness, and just because you sleep with a man or a woman I, and sleep with the same sex, I don't necessarily believe you will go to Hell either.
There were so many sins in the new testament, That is was a sin to eat certain foods when in reality I can eat whatever I want, I believe and I'm not going to Hell, that's my opinion and my beliefs though that I am allowed to have.
well im against it. simple as that. not a big fan of it at all. i am open minded i dont mind *** people at all i just think they should be married.
Kaci, do you feel like someone has shouted at a group of people saying that they are going to burn in hell? Because that hasn't been done. This thread is about marriage, not about sin you are the only one as far as I can see that has mentioned the word sin. This is not an a fight it is a discussion, let it carry on please. No need to get defensive.
I wasn't getting defensive I was just discussing and stating my opinion. If you took it as that I'm sorry you did so.
I actually mentioned Christianity in the first post of this thread which I started here.
And I was just trying to compare the reason as to why some people say *** marriage should not be allowed because it is a sin on the bible to other sins.
I'm a republican and live in the south so I have heard this theory been used a lot when really nothing in our government is based on the bible, etc.
I was just using it as an example and nothing else.
Honestly, I wasn't being defensive,
Actually I don't believe anything in the Constitution suggests that this is a Christian or Catholic nation. Especially Catholic, there were almost no Catholics in the new wold until the mid 19th century.
The Declaration of Independence does mention God, but the reference is to "Nature's God" and there is very little reason to believe that Jefferson was referring to a Christian god.
Wow, first off, im pretty sure america wasnt founded by diests who believed in freedom of religion. Im no expert in the subject matter, but i think i could make an arguement that would hold water.
And Tay, that WAS very eloquently stated. Despite the differences in our opinions, im certainly able to see where youre coming from. Thats what i love, sound logical arguements. I may have neglected to see this economic side to marriage, and only thought about its religious implications. If someone is going to decide to spend the rest of their life with someone else (although nowadays 50% of marriage end in divorce :-p) , regardless of genders, then yea, guess those thigns reserved for married couples should apply. I think that , on a more weird note, no government would want their citizens to participate in a same sex union, simply for the fact that procreation would be affected, and the overall population would presumably go down. Same with abortion, one less baby, is one less child that needs things bought for them. Ideas like same sex marriage and abortion dont help a nation, at all. Unfortunately i think its as simple as that :-/. Government has no right to tell you how to live, but by god theyll do everything they can to make sure that you arent going to hurt the nation.
OO, how about this. What do you think of women, who have children FOR a same sex couples, particularly male couples? Like, if two *** men wanted to have a child, and one of their lady friends offered to carry the baby and give it up after birth (im pretty sure that happens more than ppl think)? My opinion is if youre ***, youre not supposed to have a child, right? Just by the biological interworkings of the universe. However, if it comes down to a parentless child growing up in foster homes, or being the child o a *** couple, u better believe id go with the *** couple. In conclusion, my opinions has changed, i think that *** couples should have the right to get married, particularly because of the economic implications. But when it comes to children, i think they should only be able to adopt, because its just seems to me that if your were born ***, there is something about you that isnt supposed to be passed on genetically. Im not tryign to sound like a biggot, but i mean, if your biology made you attracted to the sex that couldnt produce a baby, why would you clammor at the bit for one, like a LOT of these couples. what do u guys think? cause i could keep going in circles like this all day.
I disagree with part of this.
Just because you are sexually attracted to a member of the same sex does not mean that your want to become a parent and to nuture a child goes away ever.
Also, what would you say about two women? Their biology is to have children so would you think it's better for two women to have a baby through ivf than two guys that are together to go through the same process?
I think it's fine personally and just because you are sexually attracted to someone of the same sex doesn't mean you will automatically be a horrendous parent like some people try to make it seem.
And that last comment wasn't aimed at you at all. Just in general. But I wanted to put that out there as this is a discussion and not an attack at all.
