    Default Lilred Tip #1

ok ndner'sI am not a pro,and someone may have already posted this, but since I have not been here much and can't look at all the threads anyways, theres way to many for one man to scope. So here is my first tip, most already know it but rarely practice it,"Lilred".

1...Play within your bankroll!!!!! Do not play1/2 NL if you have 50 bucks in your account.Play smaller limits and work your way up, it only takes one bad beat to mess up your roll if you have it all out!

OK, Lilred, you're talkin my language, I completely understand this. I stick to small money tables, because sometimes (alot), I get too bold on the poker tables. In the old days, blackjack was my game and I had alot of guts. I would think nothing of putin $100 on one hand of bj. There are nights I would walk in with $100 and walk out with $4,000. My record of playing bj was 14 times to the casino in the bamahas. Think about it, I went to the Bahamas 14 times in one month! I have been there more times than I can count. I went there so much, I got the pent house and dom free- my flight too. When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale it took me 15 minutes to get there. One time 8 of us chartered a small plane to get us there because we missed our flight!!! These days, if I put $100 on a poker table, I start winning and then I end up giving it all back. With bj its easy to get up and walk away, but with poker, there is somebody you always want to beat. I try to stick to the smaller tables, double my money and move to the next. Sometimes, I have a problem leaving my poker table. At least with bj you can't go all in. I seem to do that more live than I do online. Oh well, you have to play what works for you. I'm glad to see you back in the forum!!!!

Sorry Lilred but you cant even get in a real life NL game with $50.
At least no place I've ever been, and I've been to a lot.
    Usually the min. buy-in is $200,and maybe two times I've seen a $100 min.NL buy-in,but it's very rare.
So unless you have a thing for being laughed at or like to be humiliated, you dont even go near a NL table in real life without a few hundred dollars.
I always watched the tables online where they play very high stakes NL where the blinds are at least $100 sb -$150 bb and wondered where these people got that kind of money.
When I hit my big slot win online I decided to play one of those tables.Boy I have never had that much of an adrenalin rush for over 30 minutes, and thought my heart was gonna pop.
I sat at a $250 sb -$500 bb NL table for over a half hour and think it takes a set of brass ones to bet that kind of money while staying level-headed.I tried my best and even won a hand but my heart was going like a hummingbirds and I left before I could lose all that money I had just won on a slot machine.I loved doing it just once ,but don't know how these guys do it (bet $10K+) on a hand of poker and stay so calm.

Poker can be very scary because someone always has a bigger bankroll!!! Here in Floida at the horse tracks for example, you can find $50 nl. Sometimes thats all I have, but I still have fun. Sometimes I walk out with a little money in my pocket and sometimes I don't, but I always enjoy a game of poker. It would be nice to have an unlimited bankroll!!!!

ok my bad,I hardly play real life, I was just refering to online poker and beginners.I never word anything well, don't take the 50 or whatever into a game, could be 1000 dollars, where you can lose it all at once.Lol I really need to start reading some of my posts,I am terrible.Anyways the tip or point was not to get in a game"new players mainly" where you can lose all your money.Sorry Idtheman i will try to word it better next time. Most of the tables for NL in Biloxi I think are at least that 200 to 500 on most, but they have some4-4-8,8-8-16 so forth so on,that are a little cheaper.

Actually in most online rooms the minimum buy in to a cash game in 20 BB ($40 at a 1/2 NL table)

In florida they have lots of 1/2 NL $40 min, $100 max tables (I even know of one place with a $20 min)

I recently took a trip to vegas and saw a 20 min, 50 max .50/1 NL table, as well as several 50 min/300 max 1/2 NL tables at excalibur (aka drunkfest tables)

Where did you play this 250/500 NL game? Any famous pros in it? Recently the biggest NL game I saw at bellagio was 100/200 NL, although there were rumors about a 500/1k mixed PLO and NLHE game that happened the week before. (note: this was during WSOP)

These, however, are some of the biggest games run where million dollar pots are not unheard of, and the table is usually half living legends. What did you buy in for? That must of been 1 hell of a slot machine hit!

I played the high stakes NL online after I hit a slot machine for $10K+ at InterCasino .
I think the buy-in was $5k and yes it was a scary feeling betting that much, but a rush I will never forget. No famous names at the table but it was online,so who knows ???

Wouldnt be buying in for 5k at a 250/500 game be exactly the same as buying in for $20 at a 1/2 game? And youre giving OP a problem for mentioning buying in for $50 at a 1/2 game?

A normal buyin for an online 250/500 game online would be 100k

well even if i won that much cash, I wouldn't recomend novices players such as myself to enter games like that.it's about learning and having fun online, stay witin your limits whatever they may be.
