    Default What was the best vacation you ever took?

    My best vacation was when a group of us guys drove as far north into Canada (Kenora) as the roads would allow us, above Minnesota.
    From there we flew in a pontoon plane north some 100+ miles and stayed
    at a hunting and fishing resort. One day while trolling for Lake trout,
    we passed by my Dads boss and son and we waved. After a bit my Dad
    hooked one, my brother and I quickly reeled in and 1 on the wheel and the other on the net. While we prepared for a landing, we noticed that my Dads boss, some 300 yards behind us, had one too. A minute a drama climaxed
    when my dads line popped out of the water, hooked lure to lure with his boss.
    My Dads luck went bad and worse. While everyone was catching fish, my dad couldn't get a bite. The next day we were trolling in the same area, my dad flicks a cig butt over the side and the wind caught it and blew it back at his line and burnt it. He's grumbling and re-spooling his reel and my brother and I are laughing are asses off. We start to troll again and my dads other friend, our team leader, races by yelling, " cut your lines and head to shore". It was sunny out we thought, but there was a darking sky approaching. My dad says cut the lines and we headed to shore a bout a mile away. By the time we made it to shore, our boat had 6 inches of water in it.
    Canadian storms aren't no joke. We were packing up the last morning before heading home and my dad, still skunked, goes out on his own to try 1 last time to catch a fish. Low and behold he caught a Northern pike some 4-5 pounds. The smile on his face was priceless.

    What are you waiting for Eddie, grab the bull by the horn or a tiger by the tail and make that great time. PUSH

    Do I need to tell you about my Winnebego trip from Minnesota to Prince Edwards Island via Canada then
    ferried back through Maine?

    Or what about my 17 days in Hawaii and a week on a sail boat?

    Or how about the Indian with a gun on his reservation?

    The NDN poker marathon coincided with the start of my and Klinkman's future, actually.

    As far as vacations go, I'm not sure about my best ones, but memorable ones have been to Taos, NM with my parents, and to Dubuque or Memphis/other large Magic:The Gathering tournaments with Klinkman. We also took a nice weekend away to a motel and a fancy dinner last year for our belated one-year anniversary over the 4th of July weekend. This year we're driving up to Kansas City for a Carbon Leaf concert and staying in a hotel overnight.

    I've been on vacation a ton of times growing up but my fave vacation was in 1996 with my best friend Diane... we went to Las Vegas for a week to watch the pro bull riding championship and came home with alcohol poisoning.... LOL.... and then when we got off of the plane with the worst hangovers ever and were waiting forever to go through customs, they told us they lost our luggage and we would have to wait for the next plane in 2 hours to have our lugguage. We just lied down on the airport floor beside the customs desk and waited....... eventually 2 hours went by (and about a couple thousand tourists walked over us or by us) and our luggage was still lost and so they let us go. it was about 2 weeks later I got my suitcase back and all my hotel souveniors that I packed were no longer in there.... LOL, exact same thing happened to my girlfriend. although coming home sucked, the trip to vegas was AWESOME.... I don't recommend drinking every night you go there if your staying for a week..... LOL and don't stay at the MGM Grand if you want a souvenior from them...... haha

    Default Vacations can get you killed

    1983 My brother and I went to Maui for a 1 week trek and 1 week sailing.
    What a wild time we had.
    First night we camped at a YMCA camp with a group of 10 of us.
    In the morning while we were inside eating breakfast our tent blew away
    with a violent wind. We found it up it a tree some 200 yards away.
    The next night we camp red sands beach campground. While we set up camp and started to cook dinner, others started showing up at our table for food. I guess it's customary to share in Hawaii. So we did and had good chats. As we slept in our tent, he were awoken around midnight by
    the others. "Psst Psst Psst Hey man you want to buy some Maui Wowie"
    We smell the bag and said "You bet and gave the man a $120 for like an ounce and a half and it was purple. Cool. The next morning we swam at red sands beach and if you swim out 100 yards, there are lava rocks (called Aa) that formed a natural whirlpool. When we got out there and climbed in there were 2 topless girls inside. That was a nice sureprise.
    Of course we burned with them.
    Stop
    We need to learn Hawaiian language before we go one.
    All vowels are said seperately Aa sounds like small a small a
    the vowels go like this
    a = small a
    e = long a
    i = long e
    o = long o
    u = uu like yew yuck

    I saw a street named Eio = A E O

    Off to the waterfalls and on the way,
    we hiked through a bamboo forest, which I still think was the coolest thing to do ever. Nothing grow underneath and when the wind blows, it's like music. clack clack clackity clack When we get to the falls, it was like a giant tea leave garden. We climbed behind the falls and then trekked down to the 7 sister pools. Each pool had it's own charm. We jumped off cliffs and met more naked women and made a day of it.
    The next day we got up 4am and drove to the top of the Volcano to watch the sunrise. They told us it would get cold, but 27 degrees.
    I was not dressed well enough. It was worth it though, the sunrise was spectacular. The trek ended in Lahina at the docks, were we met our
    Captain of the sail boat. ALL ABOARD we brought 2 cases of Stienlager liters and our Maui Wowie, we were ready to party. WRONG
    The Boat included Myself, brother, a young black guy who won the trip at a beauty contest, the captain, the first mate /female cook and an old couple from Chesapeek Bay. NO PARTYING However, we decided to sleep up on deck every night so we could party after the old folks went to sleep. The Captain was the first to share in are offerings and got to know him quite well. One day we swam with dolphins and another day we snorked with giant fish and visited the tiny Dole Pineapple island where we met 2 locals who drove us around the island and showed some real Hawaiian. One day we were sailing around the tip of an island, with a 160
    sail because of very light wind. As soon as we crossed the tip, 30 mile an hour winds tossed the boat sideways. the right side of the boat was under 1 foot of water. We hear the Captain screaming " Clip on you safety harnesses" and then shouted for my brother and I to drop the 160 sail. We looked at each other and did what he told us. We never been sailing before. The sail came screaming down and we gathered it into our laps as fast as possible. The boat righted it self and all was calm.
    The captain said we didn't act like any rookies and said we did a great job. That afternoon we were in a cove for our last day and night.
    My brother and I had been spear fishing all week and Jim kept dropping his spear and couldn't go deep enough to get it. This time was no exception,
    we head back to the boat some 75 yards to tell the Captain again. He grumbled and juped in to go get it. 1/2 way there I told Jim that he should go show him where it was chump, reluctantly he swam out there.
    As soon as Jim got to the spot he lost his spear, he suddenly got yanked underwater.........

    Should I finish?

    Eejit or NDN don't like my story, feel free to decuct some chips.
    I'm writing this for me too, so five years from now I won't forget.

    The next thing I see is a struggle it the water. The captain must be messing with him. But No, Jim has the captain around the neck and is
    swimming towards the boat. I untie the rubber raft and paddle out to meet them half way. We get him back to the boat and find that he had bursted an eardrum and almost drown. The timing was critical, if my brother had not swam out there, he would have surely died. We head to dock early and to the hospital. Captain bought us drinks all night long, he was so grateful. Now the Black fellow and my brother started hitting on these 2 foxy Aussie girls. The problem was we were heading home the next day. So we all flew to Honolulu and decided to shared a room together. Problem was we didn't have any money left.

    I'll finish tomorrow still gets good

    Klink and I just got home from an awesome vacation in Kansas City. We drove up there on Friday and met up with his mom, sister and gramma. That night we walked in the beautiful summer air to a free outdoor concert from one of our favorite bands that I've posted about before, :: CARBON LEAF - NOTHING RHYMES WITH WOMAN ::.

    They played an amazing show, and we got to stand right close to the stage and sing our hearts out to the songs we know and love from the band. About halfway through the show it started to rain, but the band promised to keep right on playing, and Klink and I stood out in the field in the rain and sang and danced all night. Then we all walked back to the hotel in the rain with t-shirts and stickers we purchased from the merchandise booth. By the time we got back to the hotel we were soaked, but it was totally and completely worth it.

    Usually I like to get out of the rain, but for some reason last night all I wanted to do was sit out there and let it fall all over me and wash all my cares away so I could just dance. And it was wonderful.

    Klink and I danced together to a song that will play at the conclusion of our wedding, when we take the walk down the aisle for the first time as a married couple.

    When we got back Klink and I said goodnight to his family and retired to our room, where we ordered a pizza and enjoyed each other's company till the wee hours of the morning. Today after waking up, we met back up with my future in-laws and were treated to a wonderful Italian lunch before packing up and heading back to our apartment. Now we're sitting down to enjoy the free (!) internet, grilled hot dogs, and Mike's Hard Lemonade. Could life be any better? I think not. We are living a life less ordinary!

    well i have had a few nice vacations. hawaii, mexico, guam, australia, bali, philipines, germany. i dont know which one was better because i had fun at all of them. personally i would rather go to LA and stay with my bro and sis in law and play with all the kids. i guess well being a military brat doesnt help either as i have been able to travel alot. if i had to pick one i would say hawaii. it was the most relaxing ever. mexico was fun but i was just out of high school and u know how that goes during spring break. i would really like to go to new orleans for mardi gras. and to new york for new years. maybe a UK trip will be in the near future. i would visit eejit if he doesnt move to US. well that all i got to say. oh wait the grand canyon was a great vacation..

    My best vacation ever and always is when I go to Las Vegas. I love all the lights and non stop action. There is excitement in the air 24-7. From the time you get off the plane, till you get back on, nothing but a good time!!! I only allow myself 2 nights and 3 days max, any more and I start to get myself in trouble. I also really enjoyed the 24 hour poker marathon. We should do that again. 24 hours of poker just for me!!!!! When you tell people you played in an event like this they think you are crazy! We all here at NDN are crazy and proud of it!!!
