Simple question, possibly not a simple answer. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

no its not a sport but it is a thinking mans game
Nope, just men, women are dumb
i think, to the man or woman who is paying for the condo and going out to eat at casino restarants it would be a sport not unlike big name players of basketball, baseball, or any other sport..
but to the couple on vacation from clairmore Ok.. i think they would consider it a game and either play to kill time or dreams of glory and fame!!!
No, i would not consider it a sport. It is a game however and sports and games may seem related but they really arent. I just think its a way to test your skill (mixed with a little luck of course) against other people who are interested in the "game". If i was to call it a sport that would mean that i would have to call chess, checkers, and any card game that involves skill in order to win, a "sport". So as much as i would like it to be classified as a sport so i could put that i played it professionally on a resume, it would be listed under hobbies as a game i enjoy playing. Im sure most of you will agree with me? Yea?
I sure have a sporting good time playing this game of poker with all of you.
Poker is indeed a sport. Have you forgotten about our 24 hour poker marathon? Something like that takes strength and endurance. The ability to fight all outside forces and sit at your computer with NDN and our fellow poker players. The ability to fight off your family and concentrate on the game. All while you're trying stay up all night, getting bounties and trying like hell not to get drunk and pass out!!!! Yes my friends, sometimes poker can be a sport....
Sports by definition
sport (spôrt, sprt)
n.
1.
a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.
well if you go by this then i would sy its a sport. Also if not a sport why would it be on ESPN? Poker is not physical (well not most of the time) like most sports but the skill is still there needed to compete at a high level. With that being said i think most people dont look at poker being a sport since you have people sitting aorund on their *** for 12-16 hours at a time. So would fishing, bowling, or any other type of outdoors hunting be considered a sport? I think it what it really comes down to is what do you consider a sport and how you looik at it.
Good point targetguy!
hell ya pokers a sport just like football or any other sport with pros and amatuers. one day ill be a pro making a living from it and not to long in the future so yes it is an awesome sport
I think that poker is a sport in cetain aspects of the such. You have to have alot of stamina to play in some of the larger tournaments, wether it is live or online. You have to be able to keep it together mentally and not cave into the pressures of the game. There is alot of people out there that dont have the patience to make it in poker, myself included sometimes. But in other aspects, no it isnt a sport. I think poker is unique and in its own class.
