It wasn't a re-raise of $20, just a raise. And i called for the implied odds... Which were correct until the turn lol.

Anybody calling preflop with small pairs is only doing it for the implied odds. That is the point of playing them. Do you need me to go into detail about implied odds? After all, i believe you are the $65k man!

    i dont understand poker.

If my 2 up/down cards are suited or close in numerical value (within 5 of each other) , ill raise. If they arent, ill just call

Implied odds when you are heads up and can assume you are drawing to two outs baffles me....

Implied odds mean calling a hand knowing that you might be behind but knowing that if you hit you will be able to extract a large amount of profit from a player.

If you are calling a $20 raise with only a 20% chance of winning when the pot is only $10 then this is the wrong play. However if you know (as i did) that if you hit your hand there would still be betting post flop then you can add this into your equation. This makes a $20 call into a potential $1100 with a 20% chance of winning a definate call.

I know that i lost this hand but i am pretty confident if that A hadnt turned i would have won all his chips. Therefore my $20 call i stand by as the right call and take the loss on the chin as just one of those things this lovely game likes to throw up.

Implaied odds can also be used to calculate the amount of $ put into the pot by players after you.

Say we have 10 of us playing, blinds 10/20, everyone limps (200 in the pot), and the BB raises to 3x the BB (60), the player UTG has to call 40 to win 260, odds of 7.5-1.

HOWEVER - the players behind will more than likely call aswell, having invested 20 and only costing 40 to win more and more each time.

So with 7.5-1 pot odds at the same, you can use implied odds to say add 7 other peoples 40 chip call to be on the safe side, making it 40 to win like 600 = 15-1
