Is this a cold run?

I was playing .02/.04 and I had KJ with .50 behind me. I was 2nd under the gun and it folds to me.. I shove which I think was a dumb move. It folds around to the big blind who calls me with 10/3. Hits a 10 on the flop..

Then I have 88. Flop QJ9...2diamonds... 5 ...3rd diamond on the turn.. He checks again and I shove. Calls with A5 no diamond.. hit's another 5... on the river after calling...

This must be a bad run because I don't know what to think lol

It was only a couple of dollars but it really made me upset because I don't see the reasoning behind either hand. I did make poor decisions, but it doesn't make their action right.

Hey Sassy, sorry to hear about your run. Obviously the shove with two eights on a QJ95 board will most likely be -EV, almost always regardless of pot size, especially in a multi-way pot. As for an opponent making a loose call with 10/3, whereas you did not outline the pot size, bet sizes, stack sizes, position, etc... I would still just venture to say that the cards just didn't run in your favor. In LLHE, you will encounter many of these daring calls, and it is out of your hands to fade a 5 or 10, without a J or K on board. That is a pretty standard loss as a favorite subsequent to the call PF, which is also out of your hands. You will see that in the long run these hands will eventually favor in your direction, keep your head up high, and getting it in ahead will ultimately be a profitable adventure. Best of luck. -HT

well i cant tell u this it was the wrong time to push. just like what hydro said. maybe a push preflop but not after that flop. u werent giving yourself a chance to win.

Both hands were played wrongly.... in certain areas.

I agree with eejit, but I will expand. On the KJ in the UTG +2 position. Why push preflop with 12 plus big blinds? Try raising to 4x the bb and seeing a flop. You won't get as many calls as you think. On the 88 hand, I don't understand why you push on the turn with 3 overs and a possible flush out there. I can see a 2/3 pot bet but not a push.

It looks like you are trying to make moves that will work in certain positions, but not the ones you are trying to apply them in.

I agree that I made some really bad spots to get my money in but the calls that I was getting by these people were phenomenal. I just have never seen that happen before. It's crazy lol

Can someone give me some input for why they made the calls? I can't think of anything. I tried thinking of pot odds and why they might want to call but they had value to fold the hand. Especially with the 10/3 right?

So, change your game.

In games where people will fish for anything, and call you down with bottom pair and similar hands - do the following.

1 - Tighten up, playing stronger hands only preflop, dont get involvind with mediocre hands.

2 - Dont bluff. Continuation bets are ok, but id advise only betting with a good hand, or semi-good hand.

3 - Bet strong. If they are calling these bets, then make the with the nut hands. They will still fish down and youll win money so easily

i agree with eejit as well......both hands were played very bad!

now what do you do to fix this problem!

1st listen to eejit on tighten up, that is your fiirst move. during low limits you will get poeple that will call you with garbage hands like 103..

second in low limits you have to play postion, this is the most important part of the game! postion postion.

thrid is you have to look at your table imagine!!! for example if you just played a hand and you pushed and lost with kj poeple are going to call you wit A5 now b/c you showed a weak hand...this is prob why the person call your pocket 88 with A5....

if you are running bad or making plays try switching games to a low buyin sit-n-go or a low buy in mtt.... cash is tough spec. low limit

if you are going to play the .02/.04 limits, you have to see flops and make good decisions postflop. take a ton of notes on these people, like how they bet and what hand range they had on showdown, most people playing these limits make the same mistakes OVER AND OVER AND OVER...i stick to this rule for allin preflop, AA,KK, QQ, or AK...sometimes i just smoothcall with QQ as well...if you get a hyper-aggressive short stack tryin to suck out and win money into a tourney, and you will face these players, i usually call an allin with any ace or king, cuz it usually only costs you no more than .40-.50, also another tip i will give you is to BET YOUR BIG DRAWS, its the only way to get paid off, the people that play at these limits have pair-vision...they dont see u in there raising an 8 9 3 rainbow flop with TJ, they see you raising with A9 or K8, etc..Lastly, and i learned this from eejit and thenutzaa1, play tight poker...super tight is right at cash tables, if you develop a read on one of the players at the table then you exploit them and take their money, and always always remember draw cheap and make your opponents draw expensively...

as a little addition to the last post, i noticed that when i played the micro .02/.04 i felt like my hair was on fire and i was going crazy, then i moved up to .05/.10 and i didn't get played back at as much....10/.25 limits there are alot of solid poker players who take notes and are tough...gl
