    Default Hydrotrip: Casey Ray

    Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to be active on this forum for the past couple of days, so I may have already met some of you. My name is Casey Ray, and I currently live in Columbia, MO and am relocating to Las Vegas at the end of July with a fellow poker player and good friend of mine. I have played poker for 5 years since 2004, mostly No-Limit Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha, which is my favorite game. I am a regular at the 500NL and 500PLO games at the Ameristar and Harrah's riverboats in St. Charles. I got my start playing poker with 5SNGs on Bodog when I was 19, but have since then moved to playing live full time. It has successfully filled my need for income since 2005, and hopefully will continue to do so for the future. I am taking an intensive curriculum of graduate online classes, so have retreated to the realm of online poker, and have consequently sought out a small community forum such as NDN. However, I plan on eventually leaving occupational poker behind me, and opening a small restaurant in the Caribbean and being a beach bum REALLY soon. Hopefully, before then I will get to know many of you as good friends, and maybe even learn a bit in the process :P

Welcome Casey! I've really enjoyed reading some of your posts, they are well thought out and eloquent. It sounds like you have a great life, and amazing plans for the future! Go for your dreams! I'm glad you've joined our NDN family.

Thanks Tay I appreciate your welcoming! I know your thread was the first one I ever replied to, and I hope it has been somewhat helpful, if only introducing you to some large schema though processes that should be more valuable in your future experiences. If you ever need someone to look over some hand histories, either from complete SNGs or individual ring games, don't hesitate to contact me, I'd be glad to help! Especially since I plan on re-initiating my online career from smaller games, as the live an online arena are very different environments. Let me know!

One more question that hopefully someone can answer for me. Is there a simple way of quickly finding my most recent posts, and viewing the responses to it? I have learned to use Search -> Hydrotrip, however, I know there must be an easier way! Thanks a lot.

Thanks Tay again. I saw in some of your posts you brought up Tulsa, do you live in the area or from around there? I am regular at the Cherokee NLHE and PLO games all the time. I always try to catch the side game action during their tournament series. Cherokee is in the process of changing to Hard Rock, but it's still pretty much the same. If you are ever going to be there playing, they have a real soft 1-2 NLHE game full of weak-loose action dying to pay off a solid run of cards. I was actually there all this weekend, and will probably spend a good amount of time there before rolling up and going to Vegas. Let me know!

Both my fiance Klinkman and I live in Tulsa, and go to college here. It'd be awesome to meet up at the casino sometime, although he does not turn 21 until November. You said you're only here until July? Maybe we can meet up somewhere else for a poker game or two if that sounds fun. I don't know how to play Omaha yet but my fiance does. Send me a pm sometime and we can arrange something if you're game! I can also talk to mathnerd3.14 and see if she wants to join us- she's also a member here but she doesn't post much, but she plays poker with us at college. Awesome to find a fellow NDN'er living so close!

Hi Hydrotrip!!! I like the way you think and your name too. There is nothing better than living close to a beach, complete free therapy everyday. All your problems seem to go away when you're at the beach. As far as owning a restaurant, I hope it's in your blood to do it. My husband, Tony, is a General Manager of Chili's and in the next couple of years a managing partner. He loves it. If you don't love it, you will get burned out. Best of luck to you and make sure that dream comes true. "Keep your feet on the ground, and reach for the stars".

Without being an *** (tho i am sure gonna sound like one)

A poker "pro" surely wouldnt have pushed as much with 1,300 chips into a 150pot, knowing about equity and everything that you do, it made little sense. Also, calling with 77 vs me was odd. I mean, im not pushing < A6.

That being said, you did mention cash games. Which are completely different. So welcome!!!

You don't sound like an *** at all. As for hyperaggression, in a low-limit weak-loose field, particularly resting on or near 10BB, it is necessary to extract as much fold equity as possible, rather than bets of 2.2-3.5BB, which is fundamentally much more vulnerable to inexperienced players with >15 or even 20BB stack sizes. I consider this perspective advantageous enough that any experienced player would utilize, accounting for a arguably loose call I would not have made in tango with players of a lesser caliber (somewhat of a compliment :P). As for 77, I took into consideration the following conditions: A very short pattern analysis (2.5BB or 3/5 stack ratio holding 1010 one level earlier/ship 1 ace 1 paint), 10min blind intervals w <10BB, and a presupposed opportunity flip a pot as a 55% favorite to essentially secure a place in the money and eliminate a competent opponent (another compliment :P). Under these conditions, after 25s in the tank, it added up to a pretty standard call.

Let me know what you think I always enjoy some disparate analysis. Just, do us both a favor, and don't throw in the 'Best you could be is a coinflip, or you're a 4:1 dog' clause. It's obviously a little beyond that.

As per that clause you mentioned i wont throw it in, yet.

Mainly as you new and havent yet seen many games involving me.

Given my probably hand ranges at that point, id say 77 was about 37%. With money in pot already your about right on it, ad sometimes racing for a guaranteed cash finish is the best way.

What sites do you play on? Username?

Edit - im making post about all the good hand analysis threads on here, feel free to post some kind of thoughts on any/ll of them if u wish

My table name is 'starrent' on Bodog's poker client where I was most active in the ever lucrative ring games, mostly pot limit, and 'protostarr' on PStars, which I haven't been active on since 2007 when I started playing exclusively live. Also, I just opened a FTP account under 'starrent', and plan to blog my path from a chips-to-cash ND real money balance to a substantial bankroll, to serve as a tool for some of the players on NDN, and of course some form of self-evaluation. Hopefully I won't have the embarassment of getting snapped off clean in the first couple nights, where the dice will be most crucial :X

Ya I stayed at the Cherokee on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, the action really has slowed since Creek opened their new room, but Cherokee is also in the process of building a new room in the High Limit slot area, glassed in, like the Ameristar riverboat in St. Charles, my stomping grounds. If you have a disposable couple-few hundred dollars, the 300NLHE tables are soft, however, keep in mind advanced plays will yield little return, it's strickly a game of relentless aggression, which I wouldn't wager my roll on, or patience and value. No where in the middle proves to be very lucrative. I should be coming back down the weekend of the 26th, and we can throw some high fives for sure

One more thing, have you checked out the new Downstream casino on the Quapaw Res near Joplin? They have a 1/2 5 Rock HA game that would be great to introduce you to Omaha. There is a round of NLHE, and a round of PLO high, without increasing blind levels, of course (as it is a ring game). The blinds are 1&2 like a standard 200NL game, however, there is a 5 straddle rock (usually 5 $1 chips bundled with a band or tape) that stays out on the felt, and whoever dragged the previous pot is awarded position the subsequent hand Preflop. Essentially the preflop action starts to the left of the straddle rock, and future streets retreat to standard position. Furthermore, the initial buy-ins range from 100-200, however, as the game progresses and substantial stacks develop, it becomes a 75% game, where newcomers may load up to 3/4 of the big stack. It is an interesting twist, and good opportunity to learn PLO in a live setting, without being a complete railbird.

Hey, welcome to the forum. First off, you will find that this forum is by far the best casino/ and or poker related forum on the interenet. I speak from experience as i have been around to a great number of them, and this is the ONLY, i repeat the ONLY one that i always continously visit daily. Make sure to make use of the shoutbox at the bottom, and join us for our chip tournaments. Our chip buyin tournaments are actually almost everyday this month at pdc poker. Also this month there is a drawing for a nintendo wii. All you have to do is participate in the forum and enter with chips. Once again, welcome to the forum, if you need help with anything please feel free to let me know

Thanks king i appreciate it. I am getting better at navigating and finding the things taht I am looking for. What exactly is the shoutbox, I noticed that you had said something about it but I havent figured that out or used that feature yet. But you are def right, NDN is a pretty good place to get your word out there, especially when there is some return, and a friendly community. Thanks again for the help -HT
