Skype can be free. It is free to download and free to make calls to anyone who has Skype, But to use as VOIP it is not always free.

att's new service for cable and internet includes a voip phone connection. so when my connection goes down everything goes down. hasnt happened yet but we shall see. lol very cheap and no crazy bills.
