I have played nearly 1000 hands in the past week and haven't gotten a straight or a flush even once. Got a fullhouse a few times though.
Sometimes the game is good to me and sometimes it isn't- the way I usually play it is unless I have a winning hand in the flop without any additional cards, I only raise the flop if there are three high cards. Then, if fourth street doesn't give me a hand, I go back to checking. It's not a foolproof system though, and I've only gotten one full house once. Otherwise it's just been high pair, two pairs, or three of a kind.
