Default Been Away / Moved Jobs / Tl:Dr

Firstly, there is not much point to this thread, but i will make it entertaining, or just type some random pointless info for effect and chips lolz, like i do that. Anyways....

I left my old job 1 week ago today. I spent 9 months there and it was utter sh!t. The manager was a dick, who liked to think he was above everyone, if you stood about for 2 minutes youd get yelled at for not working. I worked in a bar by the way, incase you didnt know. It was all cleaning, food in the day so no atmospehere, the music was average, weekends were ok, busyish. I used to have to do a 5 hour minimum shift to get a 5min break for a smoke. Saturday night, 7 - 3.30am, id get 1 5min break at about 11pm. That SUCKED.

Anyway, i leave there, mutual decision, the manager didnt like me as i complained about being treated like ****, but couldnt leave as it was out of season, no jobs int he UK anyway, 3 million unemployed e.t.c

So i get a job at a bigger bar about 40 yards away.

I walked straight in, no interview as i have more qualifications than youd ever need, along with experience and everything. They tell me can i start tomorrow, i say Yes obv. I turn up, get shown round, sign some forms. Get straight on the bar. At 1pm friday afternoon it was quietish, only 100 or so people in, and 15 bar staff so we were stood about, chatting with the manager and other supervisors and staff. Then 1 hour 30 in they sak me what shift im on, i say 1pm - 5pm, 7pm - finish. He says, right, go for a smoke, be back in 5-10mins. I said......OK! Get back, serve some people, then it picks up, we go to about 400ppl in. Bar is constantly moving, everyone dancing as its the weekend now and a load of 21 year old farmers were coming for thei annual meeting, always fun. And damn they can drink.

So the night goes fine, noone tells me to clean anything, or whatever, i close my till at 12.30, we shut the bar at 1.20 so i started cleaning down for the night. 2 of us started while the other 9 ppl on our bar served and whatever.

Now this is the great bit. The entire floor area wasnt our job to clean! Cleaners came in and did it. The toilets we didnt have to do. Just the bar and behind it. We didnt have to get stock as we had a guy stocking up all night, and thats his only job. We didnt have to do glasses as we had FIVE people doing that all night. Just making sure its clean and ready to go for tomorrow. Piece of cake! Got quiet at 1.00 so they said "Do you want to finish now?" I said " yes" and went! Had a drink first. Walked home, slept.

Next day i got there at Midday, the DJ was playing, 10 ppl already working, and 10 started at midday. When we got there there was already 600ppl in,drinking (we dont serve food) and i was on the other bar we have. Served constantly for 4 hours (with a 10min rbeak) 2 hours off, then back for a 9 hour night shift, fun fun:( Feet hurt by that point.

The music was great, a mix from lionel ritchie to Tiesto and other DJ's. Tips are great, went home with about $60 in your money, which for the UK is awesome. Noone ever tipped at my other pub. Plus at the end of the night the manager is telling us how awesome we did, got us all some drinks, then said as its a bank holiday weekend they are doing promotions for the staff. The person who takes the most money on a day gets like an Amazon voucher 9but for a proper shop in the city) to use on whatever. Fridays got given to some old staff. Then saturday we says was the busyest day ever for that pub. We took loads. He says someone took over £3,500, and then said that it was their 2nd ever shift, and gave it me. I was quite happy as i know i can do the job backwards, but being told it by your boss is alwasy nice. Plus he said after it was impressive, as im new, and made him think i have a great future for him e.t.c Awesomer.

So basically ive gone from a ****ty job i hated, to a new one i love (except you work harder but you get rewarded for it).

The only bad thing is Bar Rushes. 5 minutes. All bottles of beer/alcopops, are half price. Imagine 600 people running towards you for 5 minutes constantly, shouting orders while u try and keep up and taking cash, on electronic tills so you cant cheat and throw the money in, it has to be done ont he till for stock control. That sucks ***. So do the people who come after the 5minutes (the DJ says when its over) who think if they offer you money they can still get it half price (obviously we take the money and say yes) but the people who dont offer us money get turned away

Anyway, any questions or anything let me know.

Oh yeah, ill get some pics up of where i work and live soon.

I'm glad you pretty much like your new job, eejit! My friend from the UK I was telling you about works in a restaurant as well, and his days sound about as busy as yours sometimes! But if the tips are good I guess there's not too much to complain about. Glad to see you back here on the forums, obviously you've been missed.

Kudos to you for being a good caregiver. From having one myself, as well as having my fiance help me with a whole lot of basic things most people take for granted, I know how important it is to have someone working for you who really cares about what they do and understands that while the pay can be a benefit, it isn't just a job and you're working with a person who has thoughts, feelings, and in my case luckily a life of their own, at least for the most part. Yes it's a demanding job, but when done well, the rewards are great also.

So how is the tips? With that many people I bet it is very good. I've worked in a bar before and it can be fun and unfun. I'm glad you quit your pr!ck of a manager and found a better option in one day! Thats just really lucky if you ask me because the economy all over is sh!tty.

But one thing? You must live close if you walk home? And is it safe to walk home in the area you leave?

I imagine it must be but let us know so we aren't worrying.

Congratulations on everything and I'm going to bed now.

Lol, firstly, your wron, secondly, your more wrong!

We use Pounds £££££. Which is GBP. Which is the currency of the UK.

The Euro is used in pretty much all the rest of europe.

    The current rate is £1 = 1.1 euro..... £1 = $1.65 US.

    And my feet hurt.
