    Default Casey Reese

I hated to see the news about the death of Casey Resse, twenty-year-old son of poker legend Chip Reese. You may remember Casey as a teenager a few years ago when he was pulling for his dad in the WSOP HORSE championship. It is hard to believe that they are both gone now in just a couple of years. Doyle Brunson has stated that he feels sick about this, saying he feels like he let Casey down. What a pity.

I agree it is very sad indeed. I found out pretty soon after via twitter people I follow but did not post and then found this thread. This is what I know about the situation.

Word first hit the poker world late Monday night that Casey Reese, the 20-year-old son of poker legend Chip Reese, had passed away as the result of a drug overdose.

Phil Hellmuth was the first to let the poker community know via his Twitter account.

The sad news was confirmed today by Daniel Negreanu on the Full Contact Poker forums:

"I was at Bellaagio last night when we all got the news. Very sad. Everyone took it pretty hard. Kid was 20 years old, an incredible baseball pitcher, super smart, good looking kid… very sad. Chau was a very good friend of both Chip and Casey and while he came down to play poker he just couldn’t do it. It was a shock. People were both sad, and also pretty angry at the same time."

Chip Reese died in December 2007 from what was reported to be pneumonia while some speculated his death may have been related gastric bypass surgery.

According to Doyle Brunson, who wrote about it in his blog, the death of Casey may have come as a result of an overdose of prescription medication.

Casey was a highly regarded baseball prospect in high school and had apparently accepted a scholarship to UNLV in 2008 however he never played college baseball.

During the 2008 World Series of Poker when the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy was unveiled prior the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E final table Casey was noticeably absent from the ceremony and there were whispers then that the youngster was having a hard time dealing with the sudden passing of his father.

BLUFF Magazine joins the rest of the poker community in mourning the loss of Casey and sends our thought and condolences to the Reese family.
