i play the 10 handed tourney's, and i just sit back and wait for big hands early on, theres alot of aggressive players that play those, i guess bc they figure that only 3 ppl get paid...BUT THATS 30% of the field, cmon!...haha
today i limped in from my small blind with 5h3h...6 callers around the table...my new theory is if there are alot of people in the pot, they must all be sharing higher cards...so i like to play hands like this for the draw opportunity. ANYWAYS, flop comes down Kh 7h 5d...not a bad flop at all for this hand...i check to not draw attention to myself, checks around the board...DAMMIT...but wait it gets better, turn is the 5 of spades...ohh baby...CHECK...checks around to a guy in late position who bets like 100 into a pot of 400...can we say WEAK! haha, so i raise the pot, and he snap shoves...i call and he flips up 56 offsuit...CRAP!, wait neither of our kickers are good..we were splitting the pot UNTIL!!!! 2h falls on the river baby, BOOYAH! this hand made me ginormous stack at the time, i had everyone 3 to one in chips, and from there on i took 3 more people out including the guy who i played heads up, who was a good player...but i outlasted him, and shoved him in with middle pair and he called with the underneath flush draw with 9T, flop came QJ3, i had AJ suited...nice little 25.00 payout.
my strategy for these tourneys is to sit back and get my money in good to double or triple up before 3 people are out. I usually try once i get my 2 bounties back, i open up my range of hands a little, because now it's a free tourney and you gotta take chances to build a nice stack...today i had about 8k by the time we were 3-way, and the one had 4k, and the guy who i played heads up had 3k...at this point i laid back and waited for decent cards, no sense in playing nuts, within 5 hands the guy with 4k had donked all of his chips off to the shortstack, nice!...and heads up actually took as long as almost the whole tourney. i started the tourney at 430pm, and we got heads up at 505pm, played till 530...i lost a decent amount of chips early when i missed a double draw, but i got away cleanly on the river. he had me 9k to 6k, when i made a nice play on the turn, i had pocket tens, and he didn't show, but i raised preflop, he called, flop was K J 4 rainbow...ouch, but i continuation bet, he smooth calls, turn Ten!...instashove, he calls with K J, river blank...doubled up to about 12k and widdled away at him till that last hand AJ vs 9T...
