Yes, eejit, something is wrong...with you! :P

Seriously, I really don't see much of a difference. Maybe I just have older taste in music, but that stuff especially doesn't sound any different than anything else that's come out recently, which I personally consider to be crap. There is the possibility that I just don't "get" it, but even so I do see a marked difference in today's music with older music. I don't think many, if any at all, new popular* musician today is really reaching very far back into their musical roots at all, to what pop music used to be. Add to that that much of the popular music today is difficult to classify as strictly pop or strictly R&B music- it depends who you ask where these songs fall. So no, generally as far as popular music is concerned, I don't think much has changed. Not until there is a redefinition of which artists (even current ones) are considered most popular.

*high volume of radio play today, not necessarily any artist popular within the past few years

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, *****Cat Dolls? are you serious. I am by no mean a hard rock or even that much of a rock person. But I think the newer stuff is getting more and more horrible... And I like songs of 2 or 3 yrs ago like cyclone, Let me buy you a drink, etc... But the songs you listed are all pretty much horrible. Especially Halo and Lady Gaga... Pa Pa Pa Poker face Pa Pa poker face. Ma Ma Ma Ma. hahahaha. -Dead and Gone is good, but most of T.I.'s songs are at least decent.

Right, that's what I was saying in my post- it all depends on how you want to define "pop music". If you define it s "popular music", then much of those R&B songs would be considered pop music as well. If you define it the way you and many others do, then you're right, those songs do not classify as pop music. I suppose we should ask eejit what "pop music" means over there, assuming he knows!
