    Default What hand

Rescently i have been playing and twice i have sceene this situation come up in about the past week or so. Would you rather have an over pair to the board on a low flop or a pair with a gutshot to go with it????
The 2 hands i saw were

    63 offsuit vs QQ

    Flop 6 24

In this hand the guy rivered 2 pair

    75 offsuit vs AA

    Flop 5 8 9

In this hand the guy rivered trips

So in the past week i have only sceen this situation happen 2 times and both times the pair with a gutshot won the hand even thought the operpair is still ahead.

So what would you rather have?????

Wow this is simply put, a great question. First of all lets take a look at the odds which is always a good thing to start off with. Ill take a look at the two hands you gave us as an example.
AA versus 75 on a board of 589.
    Odds go as follows
    AA-68% favorite
    75-31% Underdog
Now of course you want to be a head in the hand so you are always going to pick AA or the overpair because of the fact that you are ahead.
But lets take into accountability that there might be some redraw flush outs for the 75. If thats the case it goes more to a 65/35 disavantage. So you still want the aces.
But i always think that is the scariest kind of board for a big over pair because of exactly what we are talking about. We could be up against trips, straight draws, or in this case a pair with a straight draw.
So in closing I would still want the aces, but am not to naive to know that we are not a huge favorite.

depends on what type of player youre going up against...
you will get paid off better by a loose player if you hit your hand...a rock wont put any more money in the pot with QQ after another str8 card hits...if im playing against a NIT, i'd want the QQ bc hed prob fold on the flop or turn...i myself actually hit a nice little hand last week with 63 suited..flop comes 245 rainbow, check/check...turn comes Ace of diamonds, bringing 2 diamonds to the board, i bet out half pot, guy reraises me instantly, and i put him on a hand like Ace rag to begin with so i thought he had two pair and didnt want the flush to hit...so i waited and smooth called, river comes K spades, i overbet the pot, he shoves and i take all of his money...and we all lived happily ever after...the end

PS 63 suited/offsuit is easier to fold with a pr and a gutshot to a Tight aggressive player, i feel...

Kings that made absolutely no sense, " I didnt want the flush to come, so i just smooth called"
Why wouldnt you just push him right then?
    Weird.

yeah thats another way to look st it. but the way poker hates me i would take AK over JJ in most situations long as if it pre flop or as long as if i am drawing after flop

55%-45% isnt that much of a favorite buddy, it can go either way, hence why people shove and call with both hands...i think if you really want to get down to it, read the rest of the people at the table...if you get 6 callers, and one guy shoves, id say ur JJ is probably goodif the rest fold cuz youd have to think that atleast 2 of those people have high cards...aka, they have some of the AK's outs...

    WTF?

    5% is alot.

Means over 1,000 races, youll win more than you lose! Simple math!

I would certainly take JJ, Although like a lot of people are saying.. I seem to catch the worst luck when I'm ahead.

yes and thats cool, but the fact of the matter is 5% out of 100% is NOT ALOT
i would probably take either hand bc i feel they are equally as good, thats why they call it a coin flip...
from my experiences, i would take AK over JJ preflop anyday bc JJ is usually a one dimensional hand, AK is a drawing hand and i really like it, but i know how to not overplay it...i'd have to say i like AK maybe better than QQ even...thats just my preference and it fits my style...

i know your a respected poker play eej and AK may just not fit your style

i would rather have the Ak because it seems like every time i have jacks i lose as well. but then again when i have AK all under come. That is my luck. Def. the AK suited.

thats a tough one...on one hand you already have the flush w/ a straight flush draw, and the other you have the nut hi flush draw...i'd probably take the 6s7s only because you already have the flush, BUT i'd know that if another spade fell, theres a good chance one of my opponents has a higher spade that 7...inless f course that sexy spade happens to be of the 5 or 9 kind...then it'd be a money card

    Default which hand

which hand would you rather have...... AK suited (hearts) or 910 suited (spade) with this flop: heads you and 910 is second to act.

    8s 7h As.......

this is a tough one........b/c 910 has a flush draw and straight draw

I would get my chips in the middle with 910
