Okay...so I'm playing in an Omaha Hi/Lo tournament right now, and I keep noticing rainbow preflop hands (one of each suit). It got me thinking about the odds of this happening.
And then I decided...there are plenty of other weird things to figure the odds of...so this post marks the first in what I hope to turn into a long series of "What are the odds?" for various games of poker.
Since this was inspired by my playing in an Omaha tournament, we're going to look at the odds for being dealt various Omaha hands preflop.
I'll start us off with a few, and then we'll let the rest of the thread be a discussion on the various preflop odds for Omaha hands.
Just as a note, I'm going to be looking for hands that are just funny to see and not good/playable hands. Rainbow hands are not ideal, nor are 4 of a kind hands.
So, for the rainbow hand (club, diamond, heart, spade), the odds of being dealt this are about 10%.
The odds of being dealt a four of a kind (which I was also dealt once in this tournament) are about 0.005%.
The odds of being dealt for of the same suit (which I just got dealt) are about 1%.
.
There are some other interesting Omaha hands, so if you're interested in knowing the odds of being dealt any Omaha hand preflop, let me know and I'll do what I can to work them out--and I'm sure there are other people here that can work them out too.
And once this thread has run it's course, we'll find a new topic for another interesting "what are the odds" thread.
