Ok just got back from a home game and was apart of a very very interesting hand and one of the biggest pots weve seen at this game.
First the details of the game.
We are playing 5/10 NL Holdem with a maximum buy in of 1000(100 BBs) although the average buy in is around 500.
I am sitting with 800 and the person who I will be encountering the hand with will be sitting with 900.
Ok to the hand.
I am in the BB and it is folded around to villian who raises to 40$. I look down at my whole cards and see KhKd.
I do my normal routine and reraise to 120$.
Villian struggles. Counts out the chips and reluctantly calls.
Flop comes Ks Ac Tc.
Love this flop but also see the possibility of straight and flush draws. Dealer tells me it is on me and I look down at my chip stack.
I then start to piece together the hands villian could have or could not have.
Villian happens to be a guy I play against all the time and travels to several tournaments with me all over so I know his play very well. He is fairly tight but is not afraid to steal at the sign of weakness.
After the preflop reraise I automatically discount the thought that he could have any type of QJ.
After several minutes of thought I lower the possibilities to 4 hands and want to bet to be able to piece together which hand it looks like.
The hands I think he might have are the following.
1. AK with the Kc for some possible redraw outs.
2. AQ with the Qc.
3. JJ
Finally and the hand I end up putting him on is
4. KcQc.
So putting him on that I want to push hard to see if he is ready to go to the felt with this.
I bet 250 into a pot of almost 300 if not a little over.
I bet this for several reasons.
A. It gives me the right price to see if he is going to reraise, how much, if he gives off any tells, etc. If i simply just said all in and he called that would not be very smart even if ahead in the hand.
B. If I put him on the only hands that can beat me QJ or AA I can fold without risking half my chip stack. Although at this point it wouldve left me with approximately 500 in chips.
This is what blew my mind, villian STOOD UP to look at the bored. This man I would compare to Jesus Ferguson, he never shows any emotion at the table, let alone stand up during the middle of a hand. So this aroused my interest. It also sparked a new head in my thought.
Could he really have AA?
Wouldnt he have rereraised preflop to try to get all the chips in right away?
Villian then sits down and flat calls the 250 bringing the pot to over 800.
Another odd move. At this point even if you were on the flush draw wouldnt you want to get them all in? You know I am checking if a club comes out or Pushign if one doesnt.
Turn is the Qc.
Some of you are probably thinking this is the worst card in the deck for me right?
Not neccesarily. That took out 2 of the 4 hands I thought it could be and the 1 hand that i absolutely thought he had.
So lets recap we have the KhKd on a
Ac Ks Tc QC board.
Now I have to rethinking my thought process. If he has JJ with the Jc, he made one hell of a call on the flop so I am going to throw that out, knowing how solid of a player he is. I then come to the conclusion and put him on an entirely knew hand. AsKc. I think he has top two pair now with the nut flush draw.
Now I have to think what he is thinking about. I know he does not put me on ANY jack so he is not worried about the straight possibility. I think he puts me on exactly what I have or maybe is giving me credit for AA and thinks he is now drawing to just the flush for the win.
After all this I finally put a bet of 400. Leaving me with only 100 in chips!!!!
I want to hear everyones thought on the hand before I reveal what happened.
So lets recap for everyone so they can give me thoughts.
We are holding KhKd on an Ac Ks Tc Qc board against a villian who is fairly tight, and who called a 120$ reraise preflop and then just smoothcalled on flop. Thoughts anyone and everyone?
