Default Why does it always work this way?

I was just playing at cake on a .5/.10 NL ring game. Got dealt pocket tens in SB and min raised since there was only the BB left to act and everyone had folded. BB only had .60 and called. Hit my set on the flop and he hit top pair. I check, he goes all-in and of course I call. Anyway, I obviously win the pot but the fourth 10 comes on the river. Why is it that I only ever hit monster hands like that when I am in a small pot. Just once I'd like to be in a hand like that and make some actual money off it. As it was, the $1.10 I won just doesn't fill me with the same thrill that large pots do. Alright, I'm done venting. I guess some money is better than getting outdrawn.

The last sentence you typed is the best way to look at it. I would rather win 6 small pots than lose 1 big one. Everytime you rake the pot, you are picking up profit. If you play poker for fun and not to make money, just enjoy the wins and the pot size shouldn't matter. If you play for profit (I think most of us do) then remember that making profit, no matter how small, is the part that matters. I can say that I play to make money. If I rake the blinds with the proper raise, I'm happy because I get a "free" round if I don't pick up a hand.

Very true ffcowboy. I just got off a rollercoaster ride at Cake. Traded all-ins with one other player three times and decided to get out while I was ahead. Crazy hands happening at that table. Seemed like the underdog was the favorite on all of them.

i totally agree with you bro, i was playing a 25/50 cent game at players only and i hit trip aces on the flop after a nice 3 bet preflop w/ AA(i had been three betting all day)...everyone checks to me, i check again, no flush and no straight...A84 unsuited...turn Ace...im splooging in my pants at this point...everyone still checks...so im sitting her thinking...do i bet this? maybe make it look like a steal?....nawwww ill let someone catch a fullhouse....so i check again, the board hit a blanker 3 offsuit....im still hoping that someone made something and they all check it to me, so i figure the only way im gonna get paid is to bet and bet big so i overbet the pot...i think it was around 6 bucks and big blind shoves pushing everyone else out, the big blind only had like 2.50....he showed two pair 8s and As....i was so pissed i got up and walked away....the only time i ever got paid for a huge hand is when i hit the nut straight flush on FTP flop came 8h9h3c im sitting there smooth calling these two idiots betting away when i have ThJh and the turn comes the beautiful, sexy, tantalizing Qh and they both shoved one had the Ace of hearts!!!!! and the other had 2 pair overplaying it...so i smooth call the two pair and the ace high flush shoves on me and i instacall walked away with about 45bucks of their money... the problem with huge hands liek these are that you have the deck crippled and there just isnt that much money to be made, unless you make it look like a normal play that you have done all night....gotta make it look likea steal i guess
