To Rebuy, Or Not to Rebuy, is the question.

So, whe nyour in a rebuy do you feel it is neccasarry to rebuy? Iwill when the buy in is like 5 bucks as long as it is an instant one. Other than that, I feel rebuying is not he smartest move outthere, as the more you rebuy the higher you have ot finsh to even think about getting your money back. I know there are lots of theories on this but Ilove being in a rebuy and having everyone at the table rebuy for me. It would have to be pretty big stakes to rebuy, and even then your taking a risk becasue someone else has your chips now and u have to play catchup. Anyhow just curious on the thoughts on this subject.

Ill lead off for a change :o

Instant rebuying is the BEST way to increase your chances of winning. I know your doubling the stake you are paying to enter a tourney, but the odds of you winning it are hugely improved. By taking an instant rebuy, youve got 1,500 chips extra to about 50% of the table. Its been proven your chances of cashing in a rebuy event are 65% higher than not doubling your stack before the tourney has begun.

Ok, now we will progress to rebuying during an event. Say its a $10 buy in, for maths sake. You buy in, and dont take the instant rebuy. Your sitting at 1,500 chips, and your already a semi short stack, as alot of the field have instantly rebought. say you go out in the early stages of the tourney, your offered the rebuy. By now, alot more people have rebought, so for rebuying in again, and maybe double rebuying in, your getting a shot at a now MUCH bigger prize pool, because of all the rebuys, for a simple $20 stake.



If your playing a field of 20-30, say a jetset sattelite, you can get away with not rebuying very well. Not many people, noones gonna run away with a huge lead, your always in with a shout of winning a seat. How about a paradise/stars game. 1,500 entrys. top 120 paid. Say 2/3 of the entrys rebuy immediately. your now a shortstack, as your in the bottom 33% of the field. And these games are normally a bit wild to start with, the people who can afford to rebuy risk more hands and see more flops. People call with suited one gappers and 2 gappers, any ace, alot of unsuited connectors, they push all in on draws, gutshots, middle pairs.



And being a good player has nothing to do with it. The main first few levels are a rebuy are all in preflop, hardly any skill left in the game. If your good you have a bankroll that can handle a rebuy. I suggest not going into a rebuy tourney unless you are prepared to rebuy 10 times before teh break. If you rebuy, you can get to 6k, or 9k, or 12k or whatever in chips very early, by taking the peoples rebuys.

Say a tourney lasts 4 hours. You get 5 good good playable hands per hour, and say 10 weaker ones.

say 4 of the big 5 you win. 1 you lose. Ignore the 10 AQs, AJs, KQs for now.

ok, so you have your 5 AA,KK,AK,big PPs. You have 1,500 chips, and its a wild table. You go all in, if thats the one you get beat on, your out. Its gonna cost you $5 to rebuy to 1,500. and because of that, your old 1,500 is in play as money you dont have, putting you at a bigger disadvantage as more chips are with everyone else.

Now say u win the first all in. Your at 3k. If u rebought, youd either be at 4.5k, or 6k.

4.5k ahead of most of the field. Ahead of eveyrone else whose gone out and is rebuying.

6k. doing fine, a damn good chip leader.

if your only at 3k - your only even with the field at best. The short stacks will have either doubled, or got knocked out. SO your basically only at a position where you are still a short stack after doubling. If youd have rebought immediatly, then youd be a leader, and not having to worry about blinds, suck outs, big stacks, as it doesnt affect you

To reinforce whats been said, I'll paraphrase the advice I(and a few others) got a few years ago from Greg Raymer on 2+2 about rebuys. If you aren't prepared or willing to take every rebuy and add-on to which you're entitled, don't play.

The 7x figure is a solid rule of thumb, though I consider 5x to be my average. The key here is to understand the texture of your table. At a wild table full of rebuy maniacs and little fold equity, you can get away with playing fairly tight as long as you're willing to also take advantage of all +EV pot odds situations (like preflop it's obvious you'll get more than 3:1 for all your chips so you can call with something like 97s).

On the other hand, if you're at a tight table, where it looks like fold equity is relatively normal, *you* have to become the rebuy maniac. Or at the break, youll be lowest in chips, and be in serious trouble.

Anyhow, the turbo rebuys are enjoyable, because they're wild early and super-tight late, so if you can get to where there's about 2.5x players/seats left you can cruise to the seat by stealing intelligently.

So my view is if your in a rebuy, the pool is gonne be about an average for 5x the buyin. The last big tourney i won was a $2 rebuy on stars, I won $6,000 for first place. I took the immediate rebuy, but no addon. I doubled early, with AA< if that didnt happen when i lost with KA after the break id have been out. I didnt rebuy in that as i was 11th out of 1,500 at the first break, with about 32,000 chips. Rebuying for another 1,500 was pointless, as it wasnt moving me anywhere.

I am scared of rebuys as well of ring games. I know both are neccessary to become a better more well rounded poker player. The thing I enjoy about tourneys that are just one buy in is that you can forget about losing money because its spent and focus on poker.

Theres no rule that says you have to play ringgames or rebuys. If tournies are your thing, then just stick with them, you can be all you can be without playing ring games, stick with tournies if that is what you like. Ring games and tournies are different.

Yes, but there is HUGE variance in this. You cant make a living playing tourneys. Well, you can, but you have to have a nice HUGE bankroll to start with, and not run out before you hit big. If you can do this, your fine. However playing strictly tourneys for a pro isnt the best idea, thats why noone does it, tourneys are like a fun week off for the professionals.


However.....


For someone online who plays for recreation, its fine. I play mainly Sit and Gos when im playing, because i know thats what im best at. If i ever decided to become a complete poker player, id have to polish off my limit cash gaming.

I like rebuys, play varies so much early. Big payouts! the only rule I follow is to have enuff cash to buy in 2 rebuys and an add on, if I burn up the rebuys I usually opt out, play aggressive early and wait for that ten minutes till add on game tightens up a little and the Bluffers get really aggressive, just my theory.

I was playing htis one tourney 2k guaranteed rebuy addon this guy mustve rebought like 8 times. I said you must like wasting your money. I only added oon. Lost though got beat by pockets 6s this guy pushes me all in i have pocket ks
