    Question Do You wear Glasses?

just thought i'd get to know you a bit more.... so do you wear glasses? and if your suppose to wear glasses do you wear contacts or glasses more?

When I was around 10 I was suppose to wear glasses. I never did for months because I thought they were ugly.... and then got tired of getting in trouble so i used them. When contact lenses were available on the market, i got my 1st pair and wore them ALL the TIME. I used my glasses less than 10 times a year and finally last year when i went to see the eye doctor he said that's IT.... i got astigmatism, gluocoma (however you spell it) in my eyes and CANNOT wear contacts ever again. Now I'm forced to use the specs to see which is soooo unfair. Now i'm looking forward to getting laser eye surgery should i be a candidate.

I used to wear glasses but they bothered me so much that my eye doctor told me I didn't need to wear them because my eyes weren't that bad anyway. Go figure!

I used to wear contacts, until I got an ulcer on my eye. Didn't know that was possible, but my eye hurt so bad with a contact in that I couldn't take it. I went and got glasses, but I'm thinking of going back to contacts after a year plus of glasses. My job requires me to drive any time of day or night. It's hard to remember glasses when you are trying to wake up and listen to where you are going. The flip side is I think I got something in my eye from work that caused my ulcer.

I was told when I was 15 that i needed glasses. I wore them a month then off and on till now. I just turned 25 (hadnt wore them in over 2 years) and had to renew my DL. I passed the test. So i guess Im ok. The glasses did make a diff when I wore them But i can see ok without them. Plus I think if your borderline like me and you wear them your eyes tend to get dependant on them and your vision gets worse faster.

i think glasses are better than contacts because u can sleep with hem on. You can also just take them off whenever u feel like because they arent in your eyes. They are way easier to take care of and they arent a hassle when it comes to taking a shower or what not at all. I like glasses so much that i wear them all the time because i can about my apperance and they way i reperesent myself around other ppl as well.

lasses or specs, more formally known as eyeglasses or spectacles, are frames bearing lenses worn in front of the eyes, normally for vision correction, eye protection, or for protection from UV rays.

Modern glasses are typically supported by pads on the bridge of the nose and by temples placed over the ears. Historical types include the pince-nez, monocle, and lorgnette.

Eyeglass frames are commonly made from metal or plastic. Lenses were originally made from glass, but many are now made from various types of metal plastic, including CR-39 and polycarbonate. These materials reduce the danger of breakage and weigh less than glass lenses. Some plastics also have more advantageous optical properties than glass, such as better transmission of visible light and greater absorption of ultraviolet light.[1] Some plastics have a greater index of refraction than most types of glass; this is useful in the making of corrective lenses shaped to correct various vision abnormalities such as myopia, allowing thinner lenses for a given prescription. Newer plastic lenses, called izon, can also correct for the higher order aberrations that naturally occur in the surface of our eye. These lenses create sharper vision and help with the halos, starbursts, and comet-tails often associated with night time driving glare. Wavefront guided LASIK surgery also corrects for the higher order aberrations.

Scratch-resistant coatings can be applied to most plastic lenses giving them similar scratch resistance to glass. Hydrophobic coatings designed to ease cleaning are also available, as are anti-reflective coatings intended to reduce glare, improve night vision and make the wearer's eyes more visible.[2]

CR-39 lenses are the most common plastic lenses due to their low weight, high scratch resistance, and low transparency for ultra violet and infrared radiation. Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses are the lightest and most shatter-resistant, making them the best for impact protection,[1] yet offer poor optics due to high dispersion, and having a low Abbe number of 31.

Not all glasses are designed solely for vision correction but are worn for protection, viewing visual information (such as stereoscopy) or simply just for aesthetic or fashion values. Safety glasses are a kind of eye protection against flying debris or against visible and near visible light or radiation. Sunglasses allow better vision in bright daylight, and may protect against damage from high levels of ultraviolet light.

I think glasses won't be around for our kids in the future. They are kind of like matches, still produced but wasteful and inefficient. I don't wear them but is there anything that glasses have over contacts or laser surgery? Not that I'm aware of.
