I could not imagine that many texts in one month. Could you imagine if they did not have unlimited texting and got that bill?? I think that father figured it out to over 2900.00 for the text messages.

What I cannot understand it that she was texting her friend that was sitting right beside her at one time. Would it not have been easier just to turn her head and talk to her?? Unless maybe they were talking about some cute guy sitting across from them.

Kind of. Text messages use the unused bandwith in between calls and other things on their network that they have already created and are paying for, so text messages are usually quite cheap for the cell phone companies.
