While South America is frequently cited as one of the world regions most likely to experience the next surge in poker popularity, some officials in Argentina are trying to ban their citizens from the online game. Bills have recently been introduced in two separate Argentinian provinces, Sante Fe and Buenos Aires (the latter of which surrounds but does not include the city, which is autonomous), which would ban all forms of online gambling and seek to block access to all such sites at the ISP level. At issue, as with most other government-vs.-internet battles, is the Argentinian officials' desire to extract taxes from what they view as an untapped revenue source.
