Tasty ideas!
Looking for some quick feedback (won't leave this up too long) on potential changes for the next contest (tentative rules below)...
Our 5 Card Trivia Contest works like this...
1. We will begin this contest by drawing three random community cards (the flop) from a standard 52-card deck.
2. I will then post a trivia question, riddle, or other quiz variation.
3. The first person to respond with the correct answer will receive a random card from the remainder of the deck.
4. Once someone has responded with the correct answer, I will then ask a new question.
5. This process will continue until the remaining cards have been awarded.
6. After we have awarded a card for the correct answer to question 24, we will randomly draw a fourth community card (the turn).
6. The last remaining card will be used as the fifth community card (the river).
5. The person who can make the best poker hand without using the community cards (does not need to be a full 5-cards) will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card!
6. At the start of each contest, $5 will be contributed to the high hand jackpot. To win the high hand jackpot, you must use two of your cards and three community cards. High hand to be determined.
Rules:
1. Each member may only guess once per question. However, you may ask for clarification as often as you'd like.
2. After you have won a card, you may not guess again until another card has been awarded to a different member.
3. I reserve the right to provide hints and/or replace a question if I feel it will help move the game along.
4. Each member will be limited to a maximum of five cards. However, you may continue to play and receive cards, but for each new card you receive, one of your cards will be added back to the deck at random.

What if all cards do not go out. As at this current rate. 4 players would get to 5 cards fast. Then obviously you have people who get a couple of cards. You need 9 players here for full card allotments for the last card to be drawn,
so the community cards only come into play for the high hand jackpot? ... and the rest of the game is basically the same... do u mean "best hand without using community cards, need 5 to qualify" ?
I vote for the high hand qualification using the community cards to be jacks full of 10's or better.
and u better specify that the fist card drawn after 24 is the turn and the second card is the player who wins that question

say I have 5 cards 2 pair and eejit only has 3 cards but has trips... eejit wins? thats how I understand these rules
Correct. It's the same format we used for the last contest - that part isn't changing. The best poker hand wins that portion of the contest, but the hand doesn't necessarily have to have five cards (thought it virtually always will).
I'm trying to use everyone's ideas and suggestions to come up with a contest that still rewards increased participation, but also provides those who cannot be as active as they'd like to be with a chance to win a prize.
I think we accomplish this with the high hand portion, which only requires you to have 2-cards to have a shot at the prize.
Yes. Community cards would strictly be used for the high hand portion of the game only.
However, once you reach five cards, you will have to use a bit of strategy to determine if you want keep your current five cards to beat the competition or if you want to risk drawing new cards to go for the high hand and risk losing to the competition.
