After this weeks performances, I wouldn't crown anyone a front runner.
Not one performance stood out enough for me to want to watch one again.
All it will take is one great performance to take the lead.
Girls were boring> sad to say
The guys were much stronger this week
A hard luck story, a litlle entertainment (however Lee won last year and I don't think he ever tappped his foot) and the right song can win AI 10.
P.S. Jacob is way better than Lee was and sings very similar styles
I am picking my winner NOW.
JAMES DURBIN WILL WIN
I am wagering $5 a week on him to win it all.
5-1 odds right now.
He is Adam Lambert without the black fingernails, who should have won 2 years ago. James has the best hard luck story too! He has a 1 1/2 year old son and he has terrettes and ausbergers. The hit TV show PARENTHOOD deals with ausbergers and is in most Americans hearts right now.
Love for James will grow and grow once everyone gets to know him and his story.
I it SOOO inspiring.
Not one other contestant can even come close to his story.
Go back and listen to how articulate and concise he is too.

Here goes my weekly breakdown of the performances night on American Idol.
Casey: I'll admit that you have to be a Nirvana fan to appreciate his performance tonight, and luckily I am a fan of Nirvana, so I enjoyed this number. Perhaps not his best overall performance, but he's certainly not going anywhere anytime soon in the competition.
Haley: I'm still a Haley fan (perhaps one of just a few) and there were parts of her performance that I liked tonight, but I'll agree with the masses and say she was lacking quite a bit. However, you have to appreciate that she is "raw" and has no performing experience (unlike many contestants over the years) and that's clearly evident by the amount of makeup left on her face after she was done singing (rubbed off from the microphone). I feel like she is afraid to take the next step, but if she does, she's going to pick up fans quickly.
Jacob: I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that after he butchered last week's performance he'd switch back to a slow ballad, but I am glad he still showed some courage and did this song. I have a hunch that you have to be a Heart fan to have liked his performance tonight, which of course I am so I liked this one a lot.
James: This was the biggest disappointment of the night for me. When he said he was singing Bon Jovi he got my hopes way too high and he fell short in his performance. This was mediocre at best.
Karen: Much improved from last week, and basically a solid performance, but it was forgettable. If she survives another week she is in need of a "moment" as the judges call it.
Lauren: A great performance from a likable contestant. Nuff said.
Naima: No surprise here, the worst of the night again for me. She continues to show week after week that she just doesn't compare to the rest of the group.
Paul: As feared, he did another repeat performance. I'll give him small props because I like the original song, but he's not doing himself any favors with the same old thing each week. He has enough fans to get by, but he needs the "moment" that I mentioned earlier.
Pia: Without a doubt one of the top three voices of the final 12. She could use a "change it up" attitude, but based on her voice alone she should get far this year.
Scotty: This was my favorite performance of his. I'm still not a Scotty fan don't get me wrong, but based on this performance he deserves to be here still.
Stefano: A little sleepy, but a good quality effort with some decent results. Certainly not one of the worst this week.
Thia: Love her voice and the innocence that she brings to the show. Would like to see her do a little something different, but certainly deserving of a few more weeks minimum.
My Personal Bottom Three: Naima - Paul - Haley
Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Karen - Haley - Naima
Going home: Naima (Please no judges save!)
i was very happy to see my personal favorite bounce back tonight. Jacob should stick to what he does best every week and just get it done. He has luther vandross qualities with a marvin ***e like personality, plus he is still young. I would love to still see what he can do 5 years down the road. A huge fan of nirvana myself, i loved casey's performance, and its shows how well rounded he can be. Great job casey! The myth of scotty was finally solved for me, he is a elvis impersonator! I see the light now, and can enjoy his style better knowing he does have a great elvis like tone, but he is a country singer. I think what we really need is a new blues singer, and if casey, jacob or pia cant do that, then i dont know who could.
I too shall give a weekly breakdown.
Casey: I always thought that the mass appeal of grunge was that it's best singers could bring a snarl and growl to a song while actually holding a tune. Casey didn't, and I really didn't enjoy this performance.
Haley: Again I feel like Haley was the worst of the week. She seemed off key the entire time, and her voice is just grating. Put it this way-I honestly don't think that she would have made it through auditions singing like that, she must have fallen greatly from then.
Jacob: I'm not really a Heart fan, but I did enjoy this song. Since Jacob is so technically perfect, it's nice to see him bring it to something other than the slow ballads he's done.
James: I was quite impressed by James once again. In addition to singing the song quite well, his stage presence was remarkable. I don't think he's a worse Adam Lambert. No, he's an IMPROVED Adam Lambert.
Karen: I don't think she was that much better than what she was last week, but I also didn't think she was that bad last week. She still really had an average and unremarkable performance.
Lauren: I felt like she really undersung the beginning of the song. Once she got to the chorus she was able to sing it out. I still don't think this performance surpassed decent for me, but decent is good enough for now.
Naima: I turned it on late and missed Naima. From what I heard on the recap, that might have been a good thing. The producers gave her the kiss of death (opening spot) so obviously they don't have much confidence in her either.
Paul: Instead of finding a song where he can really open up and bring his best performance, he keeps incrementally improving the same performance. Incremental improvements will only get you so far, at some point Paul will need to bring it or bust.
Pia: Pia brings another strong performance. She'll go far as she's clearly the best female. I still don't think she's as good as the top guys this year, but she'll be solidly in for the near future.
Scotty: I actually thought this was the worst performance of his. It was still respectable, but it felt like he was off in spots, which is unlike Scotty.
Stefano: Stefano improved again this week. He's actually good enough to be out of my bottom 3 I think. He's got a long ways to go before he catches up to the leaders though
Thia: She really needs to find songs that fit her range better, as her low notes were just off. The rest of the performance was mediocre, but that seemed like a theme for the day really.
My Personal Bottom Three: Naima - Casey - Haley
Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Karen - Haley - Naima I think I agree
Going home: Naima (Please no judges save!), Though I wouldn't be upset if Haley leaves as well. If Casey gets voted of I would use the save on him, but no one else mentioned in either of our bottom 3s.
We're almost on the same page this week. Crazy!
Since you asked, NDN, here's my two cents:
Casey: I'm a big fan of Casey generally. That said, I'm also not a huge Nirvana fan. I agree that this was a weak performance for Casey, but honestly his version of the song didn't sound toooo far from the original in my mind, and it's not one of my favorite songs to begin with. So I thought he did okay with it. Definitely not the worst of the night.
Haley: Hands down, the worst of the night. Her voice was all over the place, and I'm honestly confused how she made it past the audition rounds with that kind of performance.
Jacob: I don't remember much about this performance right now, I think I thought it was fine. I think he's probably better suited as a Sam Cooke type singer, though.
James: I love James; I can see the comparisons to Adam Lambert, but I honestly think he's just better than Adam. I hope he can win, and he has a very compelling story for me personally, so I like that.
Karen: Karen was okay, I'm not sure how I feel about her doing a Spanish flair on every song, though. If she's honestly doing it because it's a part of her that she wants to express, more power to her and it certainly makes her a unique, talented contestant. If she's using it more to garner votes or judges favor, however, she should stop.
Lauren: I remember hearing a lot about her talent during the audition rounds, which I honestly didn't watch. Whatever people saw in her then certainly doesn't seem to be there now. Her song was better than last week in my opinion but pretty undersung. Not the worst, though.
Naima: I, too, missed Naima, but from what I heard at the end of the show, it wasn't that good. I don't think she's the worst yet, but I remember picking her out as one of only two or three girls that I even thought were really talented, and I don't know where that went, but it's gone now.
Paul: I still see something cool in him, I don't know what it is. This week though, he fell behind. He needs to step it up next week, for sure.
Pia: Pia was really one of the only other girls I originally liked, and she brought another solid performance. I'm a fan, though she's not my favorite.
Scotty: I don't like country music much, but I love Scotty. He's amazingly talented, and in my opinion, needs to have a record contract and be on the radio/in the country circut sooner rather than later. If he wins this competition, I'm not sure if he can have the same success Carrie found, but maybe.
Stefano: I still don't like him, but he improved this week enough to stay out of my bottom 3.
Thia: Thia was really good, but I wish she had picked a more mature song and not a Disney song that seems more "age appropriate" for her.
My Personal Bottom Three: Haley-Lauren-Naima
Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Naima-Haley- Karen as well
Going home: Haley I hope.
This performance is what got me interested in Haley. She has a "vulnerable" tone to her voice and if should would just pick some better songs I think she could be amazing.
The results are in...
Official Bottom 3: Haley - Naima - Karen
Voted Off: Karen
My take: It turns out Tay, Klink, and myself were spot on with our "likely bottom three" picks. I'm fine with Karen going home and I don't think she earned a chance to try for the judges save. I really think Naima is the weakest link and I am in constant awe each time she makes it through. If she makes it into the top ten (meaning she survives next week) I will feel bad for any of the people who go to see the American Idol tour!
From what I can tell, the entire world was spot on with those picks. I can't feel too bad for Karen being voted off, as she wavered between bad and mediocre. I do think it should have been one of the other two voted off though. Oh well it's almost 100% that one of the two will be eliminated next week.
It was sooo obvious that I didn't bother watching and I hate black eyed cheerleaders anyway

.
My Top 5 picks are:
James: will win hearts of America and win easily
Lauren: from Georgia and will get alot of votes, too ****y to win
Casey: we all want to see what he will do next but too much like weird Al Yankovich and we will tire of him
Pia: very cute but can she bring that star quality and a modern day sound? NO
Scotty: He is starting to show his lack of experience and will finish 5th with a great country career ahead
Stephano and Jacob are a toss up for 6th: When his Dad said "my Stephano" and he walked into audience and said "my momma", he lost alot of votes, not to mention his dumb look. Jacob's Mom is whacked and Jacob blew it when he said he was going to put the Lusky spin on it.
Thia: said 2 weeks ago she couldn't win and sounds like she is singing to children in a Disney movie. She will never sound modern. BORING
Paul: His voice is starting to hurt my ears now!!! and I don't see him changing anything about his style. YOUTUBE VIDEOS SUCK W/BAND

Motown Week. I'm writing this as they perform, so we'll see how the week goes.
Casey: He got it back this week in my opinion. Casey is going to be really hard to beaten, but he might end up beating himself.
Thia: Wow! I didn't know she had that in her. This competition has another real competitor now.
Jacob: I don't really agree with the judges. The beginning was breathy, not restrained, and the ending was just...out there. It was good for the rest of it, but it certainly wasn't run up on stage and hug the singer because you are so enamored by the performance good.
Lauren: Listening to her intro video was just painful. I was cringing. It's a good thing she sounded much better on stage. She still didn't pass mediocre, but hey it wasn't cringe worthy.
Stefano: Uggh, the old Stefano is back. I didn't enjoy any part of this performance, it just got on my nerves.
Haley: I had to distract myself by playing angry birds to avoid dealing with the pain that this horrific singer is still on the American Idol Stage. Oh God this was awful. The American public made a horrific mistake by keeping her around.
Scotty: This is a good sign for Scotty. He was beyond out of his element trying to do Motown, and found a way to at least kind of pull it off. I mean, I don't think he was anywhere near the best couple of performances today, but he still did okay, which is more than can be expected from a pure country singer.
Pia: I feel like she took a slight step back this week. She's been consistently strong throughout this competition, but she was only pretty good this week. I found it to be slightly sleepy, with nothing really exciting or interesting about it. She was lacking the feeling and stage presence that makes a performance like that truly impressive. Don't get me wrong, she was still good-just not strong or great like she has been.
Paul: I'm still not a Paul fan. I guess his voice is just not for me. I mean, it's not like he was outright bad like some before him, but I really don't care for his voice, and I don't expect him to make any major changes to it at this point.
Naima: They really put it up on a tee for her tonight. She did extremely well with it, perhaps the best I've heard so far. But she'll have to keep that up during weeks that aren't in her wheelhouse in order to survive.
James: James is an amazing performer, a talented singer and a little bit crazy too. He's gotta be one of the favorites from this point.
Winner: Thia. She was so much improved this week it was outright shocking. To be honest it was hard to pick a winner, as the top 6 or 7 were all pretty evenly matched, but Thia's shocking improvement puts her over the top.
Bottom 3: Lauren, Stefano, Haley
These were clearly the worst performances tonight. Lauren was better than Stefano and Haley, who were just grating on my ears. All will need massive improvements in order to catch up to the pack.
Going home: Haley
She was the worst of the bad in my opinion. She can't seem to carry a tune and her voice is grating. This should be the end of the line for her.
Excellent recap. Below you'll find my summary and rebuttals mixed within your reviews. We differ in more than one place this week!
Before we get to that though, I should say that I usually hate just about every theme week that they come up with on American Idol. Motown week is no different. Don't get me wrong, I love Motown, but year after year it's just a week of watching people who simply will never be able to improve a Motown song. Maybe it's the fact that these are all young singers trying to sing older tunes. Whatever it is, there has historically only been one performer each year that can pull this week off and I think it's a shame to dedicate a full week to a "theme" that only one contestant can master.
For most of my critiques, a lot of the negative stuff I have to say this week is due to the back-up vocals. If you're not able to sing over the back-ups and they do nothing to showcase your individual voice, then why they hell are you using them? A lot of people fell victim to the back-up singers this week in my opinion.
And now for the good stuff....
I hate this song (and someone sings it every year, but I didn't mind the performance). I think Casey was at his best earlier in the year, but he'll no doubt have some more brilliant moments to come. I definitely agree that he might be the one to beat himself. I liken it to Adam Lambert staying true to himself and losing to the inferior Kris Allen. For Casey, it comes down to doing what he loves or doing what will get him the victory on AI. Clearly Adam stuck to what he does best and it's paying off these days, so I think Casey will take the same route.Quote:

Casey: He got it back this week in my opinion. Casey is going to be really hard to beaten, but he might end up beating himself.
Definitely nice to see her move away from the ballads, but she fell victim to the "back-up singer" curse I mentioned earlier. I could barely hear her and she didn't give it 100% in my opinion. She still has a phenomenal voice, but she needs to really "go for it" and quickly!Quote:
Thia: Wow! I didn't know she had that in her. This competition has another real competitor now.
I enjoyed this performance and liked that he listened to the "producers" and showed some restraint. Certainly not "hug" worthy, but pleasant enough for me.Quote:
Jacob: I don't really agree with the judges. The beginning was breathy, not restrained, and the ending was just...out there. It was good for the rest of it, but it certainly wasn't run up on stage and hug the singer because you are so enamored by the performance good.
She's still one of my favorites (I think it's more her demeanor than her voice). I liked that she started off the song slow, but when it went fast it was just alright for me. I'd like to see her do a ballad one week to get away from the upbeat stuff.Quote:
Lauren: Listening to her intro video was just painful. I was cringing. It's a good thing she sounded much better on stage. She still didn't pass mediocre, but hey it wasn't cringe worthy.
Not the best of the week, but not nearly the worst either. Based on the performance I think he deserves to be around a little while longer.Quote:
Stefano: Uggh, the old Stefano is back. I didn't enjoy any part of this performance, it just got on my nerves.
I hated 50% of the song and loved the other 50%. That's certainly not going to do her any favors, but I don't think she was the worst of the week. I'm telling you, one good "moment" and she can get a lot of momentum going her way and make some believers out of her critics.Quote:
Haley: I had to distract myself by playing angry birds to avoid dealing with the pain that this horrific singer is still on the American Idol Stage. Oh God this was awful. The American public made a horrific mistake by keeping her around.
While Scotty was singing, it dawned on me who he is. He is Casey James from a year or two back (if you watch the show you'll know who I am talking about). He's the guy who makes it week after week and I am always left wondering why. He has way too many fans for his lackluster performances and it's a shame that better singers will leave the competition before he will.Quote:
Scotty: This is a good sign for Scotty. He was beyond out of his element trying to do Motown, and found a way to at least kind of pull it off. I mean, I don't think he was anywhere near the best couple of performances today, but he still did okay, which is more than can be expected from a pure country singer.
While she definitely needs to try something other than a ballad, this was still one of the more pleasant songs to listen to tonight. In a night that left me confused about some and disappointed with others, at least she was consistent with her vocals.Quote:
Pia: I feel like she took a slight step back this week. She's been consistently strong throughout this competition, but she was only pretty good this week. I found it to be slightly sleepy, with nothing really exciting or interesting about it. She was lacking the feeling and stage presence that makes a performance like that truly impressive. Don't get me wrong, she was still good-just not strong or great like she has been.
Paul needs to do something drastic to make me a fan again. After liking his initial prospects, I've been left disappointed with nearly all of his performances.Quote:
Paul: I'm still not a Paul fan. I guess his voice is just not for me. I mean, it's not like he was outright bad like some before him, but I really don't care for his voice, and I don't expect him to make any major changes to it at this point.
I think someone paid the judges to try to get this girl some votes. Although this might have been her best performance, her best still falls short of every other contestant's worst.Quote:
Naima: They really put it up on a tee for her tonight. She did extremely well with it, perhaps the best I've heard so far. But she'll have to keep that up during weeks that aren't in her wheelhouse in order to survive.
This was a great performance. I can't complain about any of it. Although, I will complain about him "soaking it up" after the performance a little too much.Quote:
James: James is an amazing performer, a talented singer and a little bit crazy too. He's gotta be one of the favorites from this point.
Winner: James by far.Quote:
Winner: Thia. She was so much improved this week it was outright shocking. To be honest it was hard to pick a winner, as the top 6 or 7 were all pretty evenly matched, but Thia's shocking improvement puts her over the top.
Bottom 3: Naima, Haley, ThiaQuote:
Bottom 3: Lauren, Stefano, Haley
You can swap out Thia for Paul if you'd like, but since Paul has the "fan vote" at the moment, I think Thia could be in the bottom.
Going home: Naima (Please Please Please)
I'll be shocked if Thia or Naima end up in the bottom 3 this week. They both improved greatly over the last couple of weeks. Thia wasn't even in the bottom 3 after an off week last time out! If Naima doesn't make it out of the bottom 3 this week she'll be gone by next week for sure, she won't get it handed to her again like she did this week.
I really do expect Haley to be the casualty for this week.
Just because someone improves doesn't mean they should stick around longer than contestants who are more talented. Like I said, it was Naima's best and she was definitely improved, but her best isn't ahead of any other contestant's worst.
I don't think Thia stands a shot at going home, but based on just this one performance, I think she deserves a taste of the bottom three.
I can definitely see Haley getting the ax, but I still think Naima is the weaker of the two.
I definitely disagree. Naima's best is better than Haley's best, let alone her worst. Naima's best is better than Stefano's best and and Paul's even in my opinion. It seems clear to me that this performance was improved enough to pull her ahead of the bottom 3.
Thia was good enough to be above the bottom 3 last week, even when she seemed to have an off week. She was WAY above them this week.
Naima might be weaker overall, but last week buys her a week reprieve most likely.
We shall see tonight!
Holy crap look what happens when America is left to its own devices. Sheesh. No way in hell should Thia have been in the bottom three, let alone Casey. I applaud the judges for doing the right thing, but on the other hand, why in the world did they put Haley in the top 24? Just why? So in general, just craziness. I'm really happy for James though, that was just awesome. What a night for him.
The results are in....
The bottom three this week were: Thia - Stephano - CASEY
The person with the fewest votes this week was: CASEY
My take: I predicted Thia would be in the bottom three, I can understand why Stephano was in the bottom three, but what in the hell is Casey doing in the bottom three. Not only that, what is he doing with the least amount of votes?!?!
Needless to say, the judges let him sing about two words of his "save me" song and they stopped him and basically said what the hell is America doing. They used the judges save and we'll see all 11 contestants next week.
They didn't cover whether or not all 11 will be on tour or how many people they will eliminate next week. In the past when they've used the save, two people were eliminated the following week.
We will see what happens next week!
Maybe I'll get lucky and Naima will somehow end up getting the boot and not making it on the tour (fingers crossed)!!!
Did you not listen to Ryan at the end of the show? He said that in the rules if this happens, all 11 go on tour. He also said that like in previous years, there would be two elimiations next week to catch up.
just watched online @ Project Free TV :: American Idol
Casey was such a silly bugger last night.
Why did American not vote for him? Simple!
America is voting for James overwhelmingly.
therefore everyone else are just after thoughts now and any of them could go home next week.
Not one person besides James is even close to being a contender.
Casey reminded me of Michael J Fox singing as Teen Wolf.
and Jacob: a big *** bald black man in a white suit waving his arms and twinkling on his toes really is a huge turn off.
My top 3 are
James
Lauren
Scotty
These are the only three that I would actually listen too twice.
The remaining 8 are just wasting my time now.

On an American Idol note; this week is Elton John week. My expectations are high since I am a big fan, so hopefully the Idols don't disappoint!
it's a well known fact that 11-18 year old girls control the largest voting block for American Idol
So who will they vote for this year?
Scotty got 13mil votes and James got 7mil last week
the rest of the contestants show no appeal to the teenage girl group
Pia is now the front runner in the sportsbooks, but how many teens will vote for her?
It's a race between the 2 young heart throbs
I love James to death, but I don't think the girls are going to support him as much as Scotty because he has a kid and they won't relate with his handicap as much as the 30 + year old crowd.
Scotty will have to fall on his face to lose I believe. He has the girl vote and the country vote. Remember Kevin Skinner the chicken plucker who won America's got talent over an incredible singer. She is very hot right now and he is nowhere to be found. And Last year Lee Dewyze won over a much better singer because of the teen girl vote.
I will still root for James and laugh this year instead of throwing my remote when America gets it wrong AGAIN.
