Interesting spot in FTP 50-50

Background to this hand:
Not a whole lot. This is early in the first hour. No reads on the 2 villains.

My thoughts:
I'm in a tough spot, in between 2 opponents with a less than stellar flop. I like this better than an ace high flop but that's about it.
With this in mind, I check the flop planning to fold to a bet (it's early and I don't know anything about these opponents so I tend to be more conservative).

After the check behind on the flop, I figure that my hand is probably best here. The call on the flop could mean a pair of jacks, a flush draw, str8 draw.

The river looks like it is pretty good but there are a couple of str8s he could've made. So I figure that rather than pot more money in, I'll keep the pot smaller and check.
Now, I'm unsure what to do with this almost pot bet after he's been checking and calling the whole time.

Your thoughts?

Fold, he has 44 IMO. Or something trappy and similar. Noone can bet that there with some kind of random mediocre hand.

Looks too much like an overbet, which usually means big hand or bluff, and im going for set or some kind. Maybe KKK, 444 e.t.c

i am looking more like a hand like QJs...b/c of the way he played it...if you look at it from his view...you raised preflop...you could easily have a hand like AK KQs and slowplay that flop.....you then bet the turn but you wern't overly agressive made it look like a value bluff......on the river u again checked...maybe showing weakness to you opponent so he can put u on a smaller pp then his JJ or a missed hand like AQ or A10s or maybe even push u off hands like QQ 1010 and even AJ from they way i look at it you had him beat if not a hand like KQs of K10s

he took full advantage of your weakness on the flop. it does not matter if he had a set here or 7-2 off. you showed weakness by raising pre and checking the flop, so he figures he will follow what you are doing then throws out a nice bet you cant call!! so i think you win this by betting 70%+ of the pot on the flop and two things will happen he snap folds and you win a nice little pot or he re raises you.

In a certain sense, you are right. He might make this bet thinking I cannot call. Ultimately, I thought his bluffing frequency is high enough that in fact I did call.

I waited a while to see what people thought he might have and I guess it is safe to say that one here would put him on this hand.
He had T9o.
He call a near pot bet on the turn with a gutshot. Even with the extra money he made on the river, he still was not getting anywhere near the right odds to call with that hand!

If I knew going in to the hand that he was such a big donk, I would've folded the river. These donks just like to call and then make a big bet when they hit their hand.

Of course, there are a number of different ways I could've played the hand. If I bet the flop, I might take it down or get raised. However, one of the villains might decide to call and slowplay a hand or call with a str8 and/or flush draw.
That's the problem with betting this flop.
I don't think I have the best hand, but I might. If I get called, I'm not sure if I'm facing a monster or a draw. More often than not, I guess it will be a draw since by sheer probability, my opponents won't flop a monster so often.
