USC's chances to win the PAC-10 just got better with Oregon suspending one of their best running backs for the season for punching that Boise State kid in the jaw after the season opener. It's good of Oregon to do this; integrity is more important than a running back.
USC's four toughest games this year are on the road, including at Oregon, so maybe if they can beat Cal they can run the table. Most likely, they'll go 10-1 like they usually do and get jobbed by the BCS.
Wow last I heard that didnt make a statement about the punishment, the whole year is alot but sounds like hes been a troublemaker all along, saw on sportscenter this morning that hes got charges for a bunch of things.
Yeah, since he's only been there since last year, he was probably a junior college transfer, and that usually means the kid had bad grades or a criminal past (or both; they often go together). This incident was probably just the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. He wasn't worth the trouble.
yeah that was pretty gnarly punch. i got a link here that shows the punch. what the hell was he thinking. goofball he would have been a 1st round pick from what the experts were predicting.

(I taught at a junior college had student football players. Some were great kids who had just come from underprivledged school districts. However, this Blount kid reminds me of a student I had--a running back as well--who was discovered to be in violation of his probation from his home state. Regardless, Blount cost himself a lot of money.)
The punishment is way too harsh, the guy from florida obviously said something out of line (enough to turn hius coachs face red might i add), and although hitting the guy was a stupid thing to do, that kinda stuff goes on in the game all the time. Cheap shots, elbows, hands inside of masks, all sorts of stuff, these guys are testosterone fueled maniacs, i'd be surprised if they didnt punch each other in the face after games :-p. Its all just a bs image thing, if that kind stuff isnt allowed in the NFL, it most certainly cant be allowed in college play where the guys are younger. I think more than anything its a message to future nfl players, letting them know by example, that kind of behavior will be met with harsh punishment. U also gotta wonder how USC is feelin now, definately a good thing to happen for their chances. and anytime something happens in favor of the favorite, i get suspicious. suspend him for a couple games, it happens again, hes gone for the year. the governing body shouldve just stayed out of it, it was handled fine. It happened, didnt escalate, was handled internally right at the moment, and he was escorted off the field, no other harm done. Why step in and change the whole season to benefit the favorite team??? On a side note: ive watched the clip like a dozen times, and everytime its hilarious. One punch knock-out, it was perfect. (the best is the bald guy with the white shirt thats chasin him down after the oregon ployer hit the guy. the look on his face is priceless)

I agree that it's an image thing. After watching the clip a few times, what seems the worst part of it now isn't necessarily the punch itself but (1) how Blount backed away after the punch taunting and beating his chest (2) his losing his mind on the sidelines when people tried to escort him to the dressing room. Those kinds of things make a school look bad--really bad. However, he hasn't been completely kicked off the team; his team suspension could be terminated. Nebraska did that with Lawrence Phillips right before a national championship game. (FYI: Phillips is now doing ten years in the California state pen for assault with a deadly weapon.)Quote:
