What has happened to classy poker?

Once upon a time, in the far far away land of poker, people use to play

completely different. The bigs hand faced off with other respectable big

hands, result in a clash of the titans, with something like AA facing off

against jj or qq. People respected the game, and would routinely fold small

wimsicle hands like 28 suited or 79 off. People respected one another, and if

a player raised up the bet or shoved, the other people with lesser hands, out

of would respect, would fold wisely, knowing that the cards would be

respectable high end cards like AA or KK.

Now and days, it isnt like that anymore. People show no respect for the big

raiser, the guy who should have a nice high end hand. Nope these days

people will make you lose your hard earned money with anything. AA is

routinely losing to crap hands like 109 suited. KK is losing to just about any

hand that can be dealt. People disrespect one another, call each other

donks or fish, and fights often break out because someone donked someone or this and that was said to so and so.

What use to be a respectable game of skill, has turned into a craps shot,

with a little bit of skill involved in certain areas,like bankroll management, but

mostly based on luck. I often wonder what it must have been like back in the

day, when poker was poker and the man with the best skill set won. What

happened to good old fashioned, good ol boy poker?

Online poker has happeend to good old fashioned poker. Online poker has brought speed and greed to the game. The game happens so fast online and gives players an instant high of gambling sensation. When playing online with not material money in front of them players tend to play more hands and play worse. When you play in person, it is a lot harder to play 10 2 when you have to show everyone at the end of the hand and they can look you in the eye knowing that you made a horrible play. Online though you can show your hand while you hide right behind the computer screen. So you can basically blame chris moneymaker asi personally believe he was the reason that the online poekr boom happened. Heck i will even admit it, i play tons of hands online that i would never play in person in a live event.

So yea, thats what happened to good old fashioned poker. Hopefully you understand the point i am attempting to make (sometimes im not too clear after a drink or so haha)

I've been playing poker for 38 years and I don't remember a time when people automatically folded bad hands to raises or never played bad hands. There have always been people who made bad plays and didn't know when to fold. And inevitably these people sometimes lucked out. Not as often in the games we played then as they do in Omaha and Hold 'em, but still it happened plenty. And we accepted it as part of the game. In my mind that is what has really changed. Except for a few ill mannered drunks, people didn't whine and complain when they took a beat, rarely did someone tell someone else how they should have played. If someone was rude enough to call someone else names they were usually asked to leave, often in a less than gentle matter. Certainly they weren't invited back. For me that is the change that has resulted from the hold em and online explosion. And one I am not very fond of.

And poker has gone mad aggressive. Just ask any professional online cash gamer. Its 10x as hard now, i was talking on MSN to one about it 2 days ago, he is tempted to quit. Reckon you can make more money live now. (This coming from a guy who averages over 5 figures a month)

its the moneymaker effect. if he can do it then why cant anyone else.

This post kinda reminds of playin poker with your parents for some reason babe. How jerry is always grunting and rambling about how his AA got beat at Absolute the other day against some goof ball holding 45 suited LMAO.

MySpace is too early-nineties, none of the cool kids are doing it anymore. JK. But back to the thread, I think the poker boom is great, and advanced players should be enthralled that poor play has entered into the spectacle; and at such a high volume. Because, theoretically, input of poor play should output profitability for good play. If it doesn't, then we should reconsider our reasons to play the darn game.
