Missplayed or outplayed?

OK so playing a .50-1 cash game and i get delt Ak in the hijack(button -1) there is a raise to 4 preflop to i just smoothcall and so do 3 others (4 to the flop)

The 2 guy to my right have a small convo and the raiser says i wish i had made it more to go ( to eliminate more players) the other guy goes yeah me too....so just a lil info on strength of hands

So the FLOP come down A 3 8 rainbow
Original raiser checks and the guy he was taling to leads out for 12...i smooth call putting him on AQ AJ or A10suited....i don't put him on a set b/c of his saying he wanted a bigger raise preflop

The other 2 players fold and the original raiser accidentally flips over a J

So in my mind it pushes AJ farthur off my radar

TURN falls J...guy bets 16...i again smoothcall
River falls 2 and hes bets 25...i smoothcall

He turns over AJ...so my smoothcalls were the right play...hard to put a guy on AJ after the j is expossed

The only way to get him off this hand is a massive raise on the flop...besides that hes not going anywhere.

Well, kinda.

Firstly, smooth calling AK? I have issues in a cash game with this. If you call it, your in a multiway pot. Its fine if you kinda know where you are, but you have no info here aside from one person has a raising hand, and the other guys can have anything. Flat calling from the hijack is weird, you have position, but even if the flop is A 2 7, or K 9 3, or anything similar to that. How do you know where you are??

Preflop with these blind and the action you descriebed, id 3bet it to $20 preflop. If you get called, you can rule out AA and usually KK (as they auto push to a 3bet). Your left with QQ-99 (ill assume they fold lower pairs) and maybe AK/AQ/AJs (maybe).


As played, lets look at the flop. Multiway pot here. A 8 3. Your pretty safe in noone having AA. So other hands that beat you as of now, 88,33,A8,A3,83. The first 4 are possible, 83 is stupid so count that out.

The origional raiser makes it $12 into a $16.50 pot. Basic 3/4 pot Continuation bet. You can now 100% discount him having AA. With the other 2 folding, id definatly raise here. You have the 6th nut hand. Youve discounted one for sure. If you are calling behind the whole way then fine, but if our reads are right and he doesnt have you beat yet, why are you letting him catch? Fine, let him lead out, but the correct play on this flop to avoid anything happening thatll give you an opportunity to fold is raising. If the turn is a Q J T 8 or 3, and he gets more aggressive, your surely looking more at folding than calling. Your not gonna stack him here unless you get him in with his money behind.

By raising ont he flop, your getting more info out of him as to his hand, depending on what he does. If he folds it, youve won a decent sized pot.

I just dont like the weak/passive flat calling down in this spot. Youve flopped a great flop for AK here. All the other Aces are gonna stay in with you more often than not.

On the turn he is betting $16 into $40.... wtf.

If your calling the flop, and we are reading you for this hand, he needs to be betting $30ish now. Then that sets up the river to stack you as the pot will be $100 and he has assumably (as noone posts f****** hand histories) $50 back.

However, from his perspective, if you flat call the flop and river, id be putting you on AK or 88/33. So id check/cal the river.



Questions - If the turn is a 5, how do you play it if he bets $16?

Also - If he bets $32 on the turn, whats your move?

1st the guy behind me on the button will play ATC preflop almost no matter what the riase is. Original raiser is a solid player and so is 1st caller.

idk if i posted wrong of u read wrong but the 12 bet on flop wasn't the original raiser...was the other guy. These guys are also pretty loose and fast company all of them....all playing in a game below thier bankroll so they throw money away.

If i had reraised to 20 preflop i feel both the original raiser and 1st caller are comming along (this i just feel from playing with them for awhile)....so it gets me no info.

I also def relise i soulda reraised the flop pretty hard. But i also could almost aliminate A3 A8 and 33 b/c they said the wish it had been more preflop ( thus i takes me off them having those 3 hands) hard to put him on AJ when a jack was exposed.

And if he had made it 32 on the turn i problably stack with him right thereb/c i only had about 70 behind the 32

I'm pretty sure misplay but its kinda grey...
Fact that the guy wanted to push more people out, in my mind, can definately put him on a midpair, with the flop coming the way it did, I'd figure that the only hand to beat you would be 88 (presuming that he wouldnt raise or call that much with 33, and presuming he owuldnt be BS'ing you with aa). Although a8 and a3 beat you, its tough to put someone on either one of those with that big of a raise) I would Imagine putting in a large raise on the flop after the initial bet, using a little less money than you'd be putting in on the turn and river in the pot now, to find out the strength of his hand. If he calls, you presume he'd have a hand, and youd get rid of it on the turn or river if he had bet large. Still, in that situation, if he does call, he outdraws you and could sucker you in for more money. As for his bets, yea, they are defintaely kind weird as eej said. 16 into a 40 pot... what is that??

^^ exaCTLY. But as you were saying, these guys are loose and fast and ****, so you might get a guy to go along with you with a junk and sucker you in for way more money than youd be in for normally.. Really a tough call, but i think a heavy raise on the flop would be the best play. Big enough so these "donks" cant even justify calling you down, but the way it sounds, your AJ guy would have called most any raise on teh flop, so i think you were doomed ffrom teh start... sucks but that stuff happens.. sigh.

I still stick with my advice if the betting changes.

looks like you were out played.the guy lead you around like his dog and took your chips but thats just poker next time you will take him so tuff it out and overcome it:smile::smile::grin:
