playing pocket aces

Alot of times i will hear that pocket aces suck, aces this, aces that. I have seen it time and time again, through the years, where someone will misplay aces and then complain because they lost to some mediocre hand or didnt think that some big stack guy wouldnt call a minimal raise.

I have looked over my hand history for the past several years, and have noticed,I won more times just by pushing all-in preflop, and about 1/3 of the times i was called it was someone holding KK or qq, which is exactly the kinda hands you would like to call you preflop, not some junk 7-6 suited or something similiar. On the other hand, you may lose to a great hand but you push out the players that would normally suck you out. I can stress the importance of playing right and protecting your good hands enough, or i would be writing a book.

well i ill tellu this i played aces 5 times today and lost 4 out of the 5 times. i dont think i was outplaye di was just out donked. aces ummm i would rather have suited KQ or KK for that fact. all in works for me when i get em but it didnt today. i got my *** handed to me. lol

aces are just a pair....i can lay down aces, and i can push with aces. it all depends on the situation.

for example lets say you are last to act and there is 5 all in before you and you have aces. i guarantee you your aces will lose. think about it you are dealing with 5 different hands. ]

SO try and isolate one or two players with your aces and know when to fold em

in this case you your odds would be slim that you will win hopefully you have a nice 7-1 chip lead over the biggest all-in stack:)

Your telling me that vs 5 random hands, youd fold aces for guaranteed 6 or more to 1 odds from the pot???

This is an easy call IMO, unless your on the bubble or a couple away from cashing in a sattelite.

absolutely not, u have to call with THE best preflop hand, but i have played rediculously tight around the bubble or like for a seat to a big tourney in a sattelite, if someone is lrediculously short stack u just fold any hand, regardless

I dont need aces to win...its all about situation in poker.....and if i was in a tourney and that happen to me i would call, i have the best hand preflop...but i mean if i am siiting at the cash table with 200 and 5 out of 8 snap all in for over 200 do you call at that....you need to hit an ace and the pots is yours....but with 5 poeple i bet two other poeple are holding an ace...

People forget that pocket A's are just a single pair. Lets say you come in for 3x the bb from early position and get 3 callers. There are 13.5 bets in the pot as the flop hits. Flop comes KQ5 rainbow and you have first action. You bet 10 bb's and the button caller raises you to 40 bb's. What do you do? Do you call, fold, push over the top? This is where people screw up with A's. If you push and get called 90% of the time you are chasing 2 outs. The other 10% of the time you are up against a weaker hand that has a chance of beating you. There are times to fold A's post flop and time to push hard.

I'm not a fan of pushing all in preflop, unless you have it limited to 1 other player. You take away your option on the flop to out play your opponent if they flop some sort of a drawing hand. If you bet to take away the odds and they call, make a note on them for chasing without odds. Chance are they have a history of doing this and you wil see them again.

The real value in aces, especially in low-limit games where players are looking to invest minimally preflop, yet make questionably -EV calls preflop, is to juice the pot preflop, even out of position, for there is no expectation for the remaining ring to bet your holdings for you. Furthermore, subsequent to an early position raise and several calls following, some weak-loose players see a good spot for a squeeze, with a wide range of hands. All of these illustrate that aggression is +EV with AA or any other top 5 hand range, regardless of position.

Playing aces definately varies depending on the game, meaning whether its limit or no limit. Obviously the rule of thumb in limit is raise with aces all day, and just slow down on bad boards when they come.
In no limit particularly at a larger table I will never slowplay my aces, it seems to always lead to trouble. With so many different hands out there that will undoubtedly call you, you want to limit the number of palyers that join with a raise. The worse thing you can do, in my opinion, is fire a bunch of chips into a blind pot with your aces, getting no action. Whether it be 6 handed or 9 or 10 handed, i wouldnt ever advocate limping.
However the one occaision i can even see slow playing the aces is in the high limits of a shorthanded tourney or the high limits of a regular tourney. The blinds are so big anyway, and the reliative chips stacks of the players aren't that many multiples of the big blind, the pots that are going to be played are huge anyways, so yo might as well get what money you could while you can.
Golden rule: raise with aces, i like to raise the same amount with aces as i would normally entering a pot with ak aq tt or the like. this way if i run into an ak kk qq, theyre so used to my raises that i could jsut as easily have one of the moderate hands as opposed to aa. And, even though it sucks getting aa cracked, i always want to get some value out of them. And if i go gung ho better i get no action, and if i limp i get too much.
