CakePoker.com launches new mobile software

Online poker site CakePoker.com has officially launched a new version of its software that enables customers to play poker on their mobile devices. The beta version of the software was released in March and tested before it was officially launched last week.

CakePoker Mobile can be downloaded and installed in any phone using Windows Mobile 5.0, however, some Windows Mobile 5.0 users might need to install Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework, which can be easily accessed and downloaded for free. The software supports any Internet connection including 2G or 3G networks, WiFi, Bluetooth, or a direct PC connection.

Mobile clients can enjoy the same features and promotions offered to regular PC clients, including the chance to earn Gold Chips and Gold Cards. CakePoker.com does not have any extra charges for this service, however, customers have to be aware that some wireless plans offered by several internet operators charge per minute of internet usage.

Cake mobile software is easy to download and install. Blinds are automatically posted and cards are set to automatically muck, a pop-up screen prompts a let the players know when is their time to call, bet or raise, players can use the arrow keys, number keys, stylus pen or touch screens to input their decisions. Once a players folds, his or her avatar will be automatically hidden so he/she can focus on the remaining players. The software also offers a security feature that blocks the account password in case the customer loses the unit or if someone steals it.Cake poker is currently developing a new Blackberry edition of the software as well as several editions compatible with other platforms currently on the market. Unfortunately Cake Poker does not offer any versions compatible with iPhone devices due Flash applications restrictions.

Personally I don't really like this idea and hope full tilt poker and pokerstars don't follow in Cake's footsteps.

This just arises for so many complications in my eyes be it as it may.

I do not like the idea of getting disconnected more often then not which is what I'd imagine it to be.

And waiting for people to pay attention while they are talking to other people in real life seems like a real drag personally.

Amid demand in the online gaming industry, it has taken years for online poker rooms and casinos such as Bodog to hear the demands of customers and develop software applications for mobile platforms. With popular operating systems such as the iPhone OS, Blackberry OS, and Windows Mobile OS, there has never been a better time for companies to develop gaming applications. Cake Poker, the flagship site of the 10th busiest network in the industry, has released a fully-functioning mobile software application for the Windows Mobile OS allowing any player to compete for real money from anywhere their cell phone gets an internet connection.

Currently, major online poker rooms Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars have no such mobile client available, meaning Cake Poker has a leg up on the untapped market of mobile gaming. This one-of-a-kind application is a free download from the Cake Poker Mobile website and requires that Windows Mobile 5.0 be installed on the cell phone. If you find that the application fails to install, you might require a download of Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework. An internet connection via 2G, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, or a direct connect to a PC for access is required.

Cake Poker has stated that accessing and interfacing with Cake Poker Mobile is, in theory, the same as if you had logged into the site via a regular PC. Gold Chips and Gold Cards are accumulated just as they are on the regular client and Cake Poker does not add on any extra fees for playing via the mobile software. They do warn users that your wireless provider might have restrictions on its data plan, so extra charges might come in the form of data overages. As a guide to estimate the amount of data transferred, the site said that the mobile client will transfer about 10MB of data per hour on a full ring table.

Cake Poker Mobile edition looks and acts just like a poker room should, only on a limited platform. The first window that pop-ups after launch is a login screen that requires your e-mail address and password. This information is not cached or stored on your cell phone, so if someone were to steal it, they would have no way to access your Cake Poker account. Interfacing with the software itself during game play is a fairly smooth and largely automated. Cards are set to automatically muck and blinds are posted without input from the user. The software supports a stylus for those phones that use one and employs arrow and number keys to make decisions such as folding, betting or raising (and to what amount). Although the layout is truncated and avatars are missing in order for the table to operate smoothly, the experience in itself is fun and definitely beats not having any mobile poker platform.

Bodog, which also offers full sports wagering, has also released a mobile client with bodogMobile. The mobile casino for Bodog is offered on phones like the Motorola Razr, Palm SmartPhones, and Blackberrys. Like the Cake Poker Mobile client, this software is free and links to your existing account. The software supports slot machines, video poker, or blackjack for real money, making it a full-fledged mobile gambling casino. On top of that, other table games are offered such as Craps, Bingo, Light Speed, Super 21 and Caribbean Stud Poker. It should be noted that the popular Bodog Poker Room is not supported via the mobile client. Not to be outdone, the Ongame Network has been developing its poker room software, focusing on heads-up action for a number of years. The company has routinely showed off advances at the yearly International Casino Exhibition in London.

For platforms like the Windows Mobile OS and Blackberry, it seems that it's only a matter of time before all of the major poker rooms and online casinos get in on the potential action of mobile gaming. The mobile application and gaming industry has seen a widespread boom in 2009, one of the few segments of the tech industry actually experiencing growth. For Apple iPhone users, unfortunately, companies including Cake Poker have gone on the record saying that no iPhone application is on its way until Apple lessens its restrictions on application development or allows for Flash applications via its Safari browser. Until then, Cake Poker players on Windows Mobile OS phones will be enjoying poker, for real money, from anywhere they take their cell phone.

In reading the above the only thing I do like is that I can play blackjack for money on my phone for free. <-Meaning I don't have to buy an app to get the poker client like some apps.

I like that alot to be honest. Now I don't know if I like the slots. I never win at slots. But then again I hardly ever win at blackjack either, lol.

yeah i tried to download and it wont come up says download complete but nothing. hmmm ndn how did urs work. i have microsoft based apps on my phone dont know y it wont work. i put the file on my mini sd card shoud i put it on my phone?

Sorry about that the link was in the post but I think I took it off by mistake. But I am glad ND found it. And as for the rest of the sites I will keep you all update.

I just followed these instructions (from their website):

Navigate your Windows Mobile device browser to
mobile.cakepoker.com/m
to download and install Cake Poker Mobile on your Windows Mobile device and start playing.

After I downloaded it through my phone, I just went to my applications/programs and there it was.

I wish they had this on the iPhone. Lamesauce. I guess Apple has something against people playing for real money or something? Most likely, in addition to their Flash restrictions.

I am so jealous that you have an iphone!

I want one so badly but can't right now because I have to finish my current contract and hubby says we aren't paying a cancellation fee just for a shiny new toy!

Yeah definitely wait until your contract runs out, but I wouldn't trade my iPhone for anything! Once you get one, you'll never want to go with anything else. Let me know when you get one! They really really are worth the money, although honestly I wish they still sold the non-3G ones, like the one I have, in the 16 GB. I really like the old one better because I don't think the battery craps out as quickly as the 3G one, but in hindsight I wish I had a 16 GB and would trade it in for one if I didn't have to get the 3G. But maybe with the new software updates in June it'll be better and when I need a new phone in a couple of years I can get a 16 GB iPhone.
