mtt vs cash game mind set
Today i'll be spending sometime talking about the difference between MTT and cash games. Quite alot of players don't actually realise the difference between the two. Worse than that though, some players play one type of NL so regulary that when they do decide to try the other side they play it with the wrong manerisum and stratergy...this blog will hopefully help you aprouch the other side with the right manerisum and mindset.
So firstly, what is the difference between MTT and Cash games?
Well MTT's are very situational, but the key part of an MTT is survival...sometimes due to the high blind levels or bubble you may actually fold a few hands you may play in cash games. In order to make money from MTT's you have to protect your chip stack. One good thing about MTT's is that no matter how bad you play you can only ever lose your buy-in, so the individual chips don't have any real value as such...this makes removing youself from the money alot eaisyer than in a cash game.
Cash-games are not any like MTT's, why? Well if you bust yourself you can just click the reload button and bring more chips to the table...This mean you should always be making the higest EV play all the time. The blinds stay the same through out your session so you don't have to adopt new strategies as the game goes on based on this factor. If you find yourself when your getting the odds to call off your entire stack you do it. Every single bet or call you make comes straight out of your bankroll, so if you make to many mistakes its going to cost you alot...also when your minds in a bad place its going to damage your BR alot more.
Now thats been explained i wont to highlight why MTT players may fail in cash games, aswell as high light why cash game players may fail in MTT's.
The biggest mistake i see so many cash game players is the fact they do not reload when there stack gets low...this is a big floor in there game and its cost then lots! Firstlt theres the fact that what are you going to do if you get a big hand? You not going to win as much as you possibley can...and as a cash game player this is what you should be doing.
Secondly and to me this is a big one...i see people shove with like 10-14BB left in there stack with something like A-6os...why do this? It doesnt matter if you bust! You just bring more money to the table! Everytime a player does this there potentially going to lose alot of money...as a result there just never going to be winners! The more experienced cash game players will quickly recognise when someones doing this and will know how to abuse this!
Another mistake MTT players will make in cash games is the "feel to need to make a play"...when your just not getting any cards you may fill like you need to make something happen...well in cash games this is going to cost you alot of money...after all if the move your contemplating has positive EV you should be making it in the first place! Its never fun folding the night away...but sometimes you just have to do it!
Why do alot of cash game players fail at MTT's? Well...there just so used to playing a game based on EV...there not used to the increasing blinds either...so they'll just fold through bad patches waiting and waiting for a playablehands...now theres nothing wrong with this whilst the blinds are low but as they increase they don't realise they have to change there game slightly.
Sometimes they'll also spew chips by playing to many marginal hands and from the wrond positions at the table...again...not realising once you lose your chips your out...there is no reload button.
I hope this has helped
