What is going on?

I won another live tourney this week. A 120$ buy-in 100 player... and choped 1,2,3. 1,4XX$ each. I am up like 4 grand from live tourneys in 6 months and I have only been playing poker for 6 months. 9 tourneys all 2gether. But I have yet to win anything online. I have won like 15$ in small player freerolls and turned that into 100$, but on blackjack. I played in some of the PlayerOnly 1k freerools and I can cash in those if I play supertight, but I get to the cash with way less of a stack then everyone else with no chance to win... with that money I entered in a few cheap online tournys but cant even cash, lost it all. Get knocked out early every time, really early too. Do I need to just bite the bullet and deposit some money to play a few higher stake tourneys online? I would think being new to the game that online would be easier.

In reality online is far far tougher than live games. After the UIGEA was passed, a lot of poker sites closed their doors and a lot of casual poker players moved on to "legal" things, many back to home games/casinos. These players were usually the "fish" in games. Because of this, online games are far far harder to beat than live fields. Combine that with the fact that people play reckless in freerolls but play tight in real live games and you have a recipe for what you've been experiencing.

I agree with Klink, its alot harder now.However playing online is great practicehigher limits online I think will pit you against even better players.The thing about the smaller buy ins are some guys play multiple tourneys and really are not scared at all to try to double or triple earlier then snug up.I say work your way up its alot time but the experience will be priceless later on.

Here is my advice. Drop $50 to $100 into an account on what ever poker room you like. I would advise you to use FTP because they have the largest selection of games. I would play something around a $3.30 KO. You can also try a $5.50 MTT. Full Tilt offers those types of tournaments all the time. I play extremely tight in most tournaments I play in. I've found that I cash alot, but not always the final table. Remember that as your bankroll builds you can play a higher buy in game and experience more profit.

On the difficulty of online vs live it a whole lot harder online than live. People will make plays online they wouldn't make live because they don't have to face the player when they suckout. It's easy to ignore a player(s) online and don't have to listen the the whole table give you crap for the massive suck out you just made. That and the number of different players you can encounter online makes the game harder. They usually say that online levels are 3x as hard as their live version.

Don't forget for the most part playing online you're judging your opponents almost exclusively on how they bet.

When it's live you can read the player. In a live tournament I find it means less what cards you have and more how you read players and how they perceive you.
