What is too tight?
After playing for many years I've learned that tight is right and loose is the noose. I'm wondering what people feel is too tight and why. When I play either a tournament or ring game I generally end with 15 - 21% flops seen, based on FTP stat keeping. Using Poker Tracker I voluntarily put money in the pot 17.6% of the time, over 10K hands in cash game. I've been profitable overall, and extremely profitable at certain levels, but I'm starting to see people fold preflop when I raise. My question is am I playing too tight? I have no problem playing they way I do, but I'm looking to maximize profit while preventing huge bankroll swings. Any thoughts?

my first thought after reading that is stop looking at the stats so much. They really arent all that important.

Hmm. You play full ring or 6max?? As if your playing 6max this is much much too tight. For full ring this is about right. Theres nothing wrong with playing loose, as long as you can back it up with post-flop plays that work. No point being losse rpeflop straight to passive, as you never win!

I only tend to play 9 player games. I don't do very well on a 6 handed table. I've found through looking at the numbers that when I play looser, I tend to lose more. I not looking to change my game too much seeing as my bankroll continues to grow, just looking for some fine tuning information.

Your numbers are fine as eejo says. anything between 15% and 25% is standard for 9 handed games. If you are looking to fine tune your game its not these numbers that you need to be looking at. in fact it sounds like you are pretty successful the way you play. What you need to do is analyse the hands you play where you feel you did something wrong. everytime, everyhand. Keep the posts coming on here and youll get some good thoughts on what you may have done differently. I think over the time i have played poker online i have learnt so much more from simply discussing hands with other players then any stats program will ever tell me. And as much as i hate to say it, cos we all know he is a donk, eejo is one of the better hand analysers that i have talked with.

Wow, i got some praise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be fair, he is right. Exactly right. Ive learnt most of what i talk about from reading others posts on hands, and getting them to comment on my hands. Thats how when i lose now im angry as i was nearly always ahead!!!
And i hope now the NDNPT is back in swing, we gt alot more poker posts. I can hope!

9 handed games i agree u need to be tight, but 6 handed games, i make standard raises with KT offsuit, it all depends on your table, you can play a specific way everytime and avoid swings in your bankroll, or u can read your oppenents and how they are playing, mark them on the NOTES and use it against them, if you find that everyone folds when u raise, that is true power at the table, finding when to do so is a great advantage and edge over everyone else...liek for example, in late position u have AJ suited and under the gun raises, i would reraise if ppl are folding to you, make a nice 4 bet and see what happens, you know what to do if he reraises or shoves...MUCK IT
