The 'pub' culture, is not culture, it is a pathology. 2000 drunken-bar-brawls a night on average in Sidney per their police statistics. That is quite amazing if you think about it. I would bet in San Franciso there is not even one a night. Oakland, okay, different story and different culture, maybe 5 a night in Oakland? What is amazing in both Oz and England the women are the biggest drunks.
