September means one thing in my family.
Time to get firewood permits and start hunting the woods.
I have found plenty of wood near my cabin, but it's such a long way to haul wood. Last year I got lucky and stood in line in freezing cold to get a free permit for 2 cords on BLM land. The wood was less than 2 miles from my house and already cut into rounds. I was done in 1 hour.
This year I will have to travel abit out of town to find good areas.
The average distance is 8 miles. I learned last year that I am allowed to cut any Juniper dead or alive. Juniper is premium wood and drys super fast.
There is lots of Juniper close by my house.
Problem is, Juniper is hard on my saw. It does much better on pine and cedar. I will be buying my permits today.
I pay $10 a cord and a 2 cord min.
Good thing I still have 1 cord left from last year.

We have a huge crop of pear trees here and they are ready to pick in October. Some apple trees, but on private property.
Almanac calling for an extreme cold winter.

September in minnesota could mean a variety of things usually from the weather. It might be nice and mild all month with a little chill or it could be cold and raining with a hint of ice in it just to let you know whats coming.

The month of september usually signals a change in the very hot weather here in texas. The tempatures have dropped as soon as the 1st already, so I am especting that we may have another chilly winter for texas in these parts. Last year where we lived it snowed fairly decent, enough to cover the ground good, which was perty rare. September makes me hopeful, and since fall and winter are my favorite times of the year, I am in better spirits. My wife also loves the winter, and we love to get out and have some campfires, and snuggle up. Our daughter kylee was born in the winter, in november, and was three weeks old when it snowed. Some of my best poker ever was played in these times of the year, so we look forward to it.
